Friday Night Liberty: a free art walk in Point Loma

Every first Friday of month, Friday Night Liberty hosts a free evening of open artist studios, galleries, museums, and shops at Liberty Station - the second largest enclave of arts and culture organizations in San Diego after Balboa Park.

This week’s installment on Friday, July 5 features cheesy eats from Meltdown food truck, Flamenco classes and performances on a plaza over-looking Downtown, wine tasting in Barracks 15 from PRP International, a collection of vintage and rare comics presented by Women's Museum of California, and several new exhibitions including Portraits/Faces/News at Outside the Lens - a nonprofit that offers courses in photography and media for kids and teens.

Building 175: Dance Place

Theatre Arts School of San Diego — Come visit San Diego's newest and most innovative theatre school right here in Liberty Station! Theatre Arts School of San Diego will be hosting an evening of FREE HAT MAKING for kids (and grown-ups) of all ages. Come get creative! Sophie’s Gallery — Presents Men @ Work: Blood Sweat and FearsCommemorating our unsung heroes, this contemporary figurative series depicts these men and women construction workers, road crews, day laborers and the soldier in battle dress under less than favorable conditions. Though we see them there, we rarely ever look at what they do. They truly show us each and every day how life can be a struggle, shown through their blood, sweat and fears.

Visions Art Museum — Images of Time Opens three concurrent exhibitions, Second Time Around: Fashion Recycled, an exhibition featuring fashions from 25 southern California designers who create new styles using only one segment of recycled clothing such as sleeves, collars, or cuffs. Also on view, Supporting Roles: Fiber & Photography by Ann L. Scott and Cameron B. Scott which suspends a photograph above an art quilt merging the two images as one. A Visions Art Museum members challenge presents small art quilts on the theme Fashion Tops & Bottoms.

PULSE Gallery — Experience works in Oil+Glass from artists Daniel Ketelhut and Rob Morey. Opening Night!

The Art of Tesa — Showcases the fine art of artist Tesa Micaels. Tesa works primarily in oils, painting realistic landscapes and abstracts that bring in the elements of the earth. Her landscapes are vibrant; encompass rich colors with strong values bringing depth and emotion into each painting. Her abstracts focus on bringing elements of the earth into her paintings such as sea shells and semi-precious stones.Meet the Artist!

Atelier de Voyages — The artist paints still life and en plein air landscapes in oil on canvas or canvas board. Her wildlife art is created using pen and ink, graphite and mixed media. Wearable art is designed from lovely gemstones, many of which have mystical, or healing, properties.

FlightPath Press — Chelsea Herman, artist and proprietor of FlightPath Press, specializes in fine press, limited edition artist's books. For FNL on July 5th I will have several artist's books on display and be providing binding demonstrations as I bind the edition of my latest book. Meet the Artist!

Jeweliany Jewelry — Jeweliany is the result of years of metal smith study and artistic creation. With consideration for renewable resources and eco friendly manufacturing practices, Jeweliany jewelry conveys an expression from the heart, mind and soul of the creator to the wearer. Studio E — My paintings are comprised of dreamlike compositions which map my inner world. They are a diary of fragments from dreams, incidents from daily life, and internal monologues that ground the work in a personal mythology. The main source of the work is drawn from opening the locked door of the unconscious through processes inspired by Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Surrealism. My intent is to create work which acts as a springboard for the viewer's own imagination — Emily Halpern Meet the Artist!
