Stumbling Westward

At approximately 9:35 p.m. on Friday, August 7, two men were seen walking westbound on the 900 block of J Street when one of them fell unconscious to the sidewalk.

Two security personnel from a restaurant across the street immediately came to their aid. Paramedics as well as police and fire units were dispatched to the scene. Customers from a nearby restaurant had seen one of the men struggling to hold the other up as they were walking.

According to one of the restaurant bouncers who assisted, the man who collapsed was diabetic and had drunken too much. It was said that the injured man, believed to be in his 30s, had skipped his insulin shot for the day.

As curious onlookers came upon the scene, police officers stood guard around paramedics who began treating the man who had regained consciousness.

A witness stated, “I saw the man sitting up on the sidewalk and drinking something with a straw.”

Medical personnel remained on the scene for at least 15 minutes to tend to the injured man. With their help, the man was able to get back on his feet without further assistance.

Just before 10 p.m. the man seemed to have recovered from his fall and was able to continue walking westward with his friend.

As they were leaving, both men were seen shaking hands with police officers, firefighters, and paramedics who were at the incident.
