At the Tomcat Bar and Grill in Mira Mesa last Thursday, Judy Wenker slipped some quarters into the machine. What song brings back a memory?
"The Doors, 'Light My Fire,' " she said. "I sometimes pick songs from Queen or the Rolling Stones. I like all the Beatles' stuff, too, but 'Light My Fire' reminds me of when I moved to San Diego in the '60s. I was a kindergarten teacher living in South Mission [Beach]. There was a bar I used to hang out at called the Beachcomber, I think. This guy would try to put the moves on me, and he'd play that song. Maybe he thought because it was six minutes and 50 seconds that gave him enough time. Usually the jukeboxes don't have the short version of the song, which is good. I was a good Catholic girl back then, so he wasn't successful. I think about him when I play that song and just that time in my life, in general -- the '60s."
