Max and Not Your Dope
New York City vocalist Max blends contemporary hip-hop, anthemic pop, and even jazz influences on popular tracks like “Lights Down Low,” featuring Gash, for which an entrancing video was shot with stationary time-lapse “surveillance” style footage depicting several decades’ worth of living, loving, and losing in a tiny apartment. “This video was almost six months in the making,” says Max in the YouTube intro. “Every detail was crucial. Every moment in the story. We just wanted it to be real. How our lives are really made up of individual flashes in time. Special moments that are unexplainable and intangible yet go by in a flash.” Though Max is still relatively new and mostly unheard, with only a handful of available tracks, his Meteor world tour was already selling out dates when it kicked off in Australia. A newly announced North American leg, running through November, will include downtown’s House of Blues, in the Voodoo Room.
