Centennial Celebration with Monument
The Mission Beach yearlong Centennial celebration kicks off with a Monument Dedication and Resident Walk.
The community is invited to join in the processional by walking to Oceanfront Walk from their Courts at 10am. The Centennial Committee leaders will join them there to walk to the dedication site.
“The Centennial Committee is pleased to acknowledge 100 years of Mission Beach history. Our inaugural event is intended to bring neighbors together in celebration and friendship. This year is the perfect opportunity to reflect on our shared story,” said Debbie Watkins, Centennial chair.
The dedication ceremony will commence at 11am and will be led by Debbie Watkins. A monument with the Centennial logo embedded in oxidized bronze and affixed to a boulder will commemorate Mission Beach’s history and represent the community’s permanent place in the culture of San Diego. The monument was generously donated to the community by the Mission Beach Women’s Club and the Mission Beach Town Council.
Highlights of the event will include a Mayoral Proclamation, speakers from Mission Beach Women’s Club and Mission Beach Town Council, as well as words from Phil Prather, a longtime Mission Beach resident and the instigator of the Centennial celebration. Entertainment includes an appearance by the SeaWorld mascots and refreshments from The Olive Café, Firehouse Pacific Beach and Caffé Calabria.
