Virtual Tour: A Low Carbon Footprint Concert Series
Musicians at UC San Diego will perform live with prominent players in distant locales via proprietary internet hookup, to demonstrate that reduced air and auto travel means a smaller carbon footprint. UCSD composer and contrabassist Mark Dresser spearheads the project and will lead a group at UCSD including trombonist/composer Michael Dessen, pianist Myra Melford, flutist Nicole Mitchell, and technical director Trevor Henthorn.
They will be joined by ensembles from Amherst College (April 5), the Institute of Computer Music and Technology in Zurich (April 6), and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, Consortium for Digital Arts, Culture, and Technology at Stony Brook University in New York (April 7).
The UCSD audience will experience a combination of live performance, audio and video of distant performers, art video, and computer-processed sound. Far-flung players will include Marty Ehrlich, Jane Ira Bloom, Gerry Hemingway, Matt Wilson, and Matthias Ziegler.
