Ana Marquez-Greene was a six year-old who left notes under her parents’ pillows saying “I love you Mom and Dad,” who often danced instead of walking, whose “love for singing was evident before she was even able to talk” and whose “gift for melody, pitch and rhythm stood out remarkably,” said her father, Jimmy Greene, a jazz saxophonist and music teacher. Her mother, Nelba Marquez-Greene, had just bought her a Kindle Fire for Christmas the night before the shooting, the morning of which, she gave her daughter two hugs before she got on the school bus. The Marquez-Greenes, along with Ana and her brother, Isaiah (who was also at the Sandy Hook Elementary School at the time of the shooting but escaped physical harm) had moved back to Newtown in 2012 after three years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. On the day she was murdered, Ana was wearing a white tee shirt with a purple peace sign on the front.
