Armed police outfitted in riot gear marched on both Occupy San Diego camps at the Civic Center and a few blocks away at Children’s Park at around 2 a.m. this morning, rousing the mostly sleeping protesters and ordering them to disperse immediately.

Occupiers are reporting 44 people were arrested as the groups fled and congregated in front of the Star of India on Harbor Drive shortly before 6 a.m. for an emergency general assembly, the group’s hallmark open dialogue meetings, to determine the next move.

A rally is called for all supporters to gather downtown at 5th Avenue and B Street at 8:30 a.m. for a rally and march.

good timing, was the media asleep, or just no good lighting?

I just came from the plaza. I've been there almost daily and was working on an article about a certain occupy member named James 'Elvis' Kurt. I asked an officer there what time the cops moved in and he said about 2am. Then I asked him if any of the major stations were set up. He said no. That they came later. When I asked him if they'd been notified prior to the assault. He smiled and said yes.
Then I tried to take some pictures of the tragic looking pile of debris, the tents, signs, a broken guitar but I was angrily sent away. I'm posting this from an internet on fourth. And now I'm headed back to the plaza.

Billions stolen by the banks and Wall Street & no one goes to jail. 50 people peacefully protesting & they bring out the riot squad, where is the justice?
