Sin Fronteras/Salsipuedes Fest brings down the wall with noise

Second installment of transborder music festival lands at The Ken Club

Like modern-day pipers at the gates of Jericho, Sin Fronteras/Salsipuedes Fest will be at The Ken Club (4079 Adams Avenue – Kensington) from Friday, September 13 through Sunday, September 15 in their second effort to destroy the Great Wall with over 20 bands from San Diego and Tijuana playing punk, hardcore, powerviolence, and straight up rock and roll.

“This show/fest is dedicated and represented by bands who live on the cusp of the United States/Mexico border that separates San Diego and Tijuana, B.C. Mexico,” the promoters write.

“As punks we believe there should be NO BORDERS and many of the bands from the border region are fueled by the existence of the border. Besides being able to bring together many bands from both sides, this is also an avenue to help out those that have been prosecuted or treated inhumanely by the existence of the border, i.e. people who have been deported back to Mexico who either have family in the United States, or are trying to help feed their family and survive.”

The festival will include a donation drive for Casa del Migrante, a Tijuana-based institution that provides temporary lodging and living essentials for the average 200 deportees who arrive in TJ daily – you can help by bringing clothes, shoes, and blankets.

A cassette and possibly vinyl compilation of participating artists are also in the works.
