While Comic Con International is certainly based around the trilogy of comics, science fiction and motion pictures/television, it’s not hard to find music at the convention. It starts on arrival downtown, before you get to the convention center itself, with numerous buskers to be found along the streets.

But as part of the convention itself, on Thursday MTV2 sponsored Party in the Park, at Petco Park, taping a show called, Guy Code Honors, set to air Sunday, July 21 on the network. In addition to appearances from the stars of Teen Wolf, there were performances from Danish rock band, New Politics and EDM breakout star, Dillon Francis.

Other musicians at Comic Con International included Corey Taylor of Slipknot on Saturday and Metallica on Friday. The latter world premiered a 3D theatrical trailer for the upcoming documentary, Metallica: Through the Never, as well as playing a set. Meanwhile, on Friday night Weezer, performed at a big parking lot party (7th & J), for the Walking Dead crowd. Multiple collectable posters for the show were on sale for $30 each.

On the convention floor, amongst a display of Alice in Wonderland inspired art by Gail Potocki, Thomas Negovan has a table of his music, available on, probably uniquely for any modern day artist, wax cylinder. Also on the floor, husband and wife actors, Miracle Laurie May (TV’s Doll House) and Christopher May (TV's The Event) promoted their ukelele duo, Uke Box Heroes, who will be appearing at the Los Angeles House of Blues on July 24.

Many artists showcased concert poster and album cover art including La Mesa’s Billy Martinez, who proudly displayed the art he did for the latest album by jazz pianist Geoffrey Keezer, Heart of the Piano.

Friday also marked the first promotional stop for a new graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics, The Fifth Beatle. Detailing Brian Epstein’s time with the Beatles, the book is due in November. “We’re also working on a film to go with the book,” said writer and producer Vivek Tiwary. “We’re still in the process of finding people for the film, but we’re really happy that we’ve gotten clearance to use Beatles music in it. That makes all the difference,” he said. Fans that came by the booth received a free mini poster of the graphic novels cover art by Andrew Robinson. Artist Kyle Baker is also involved with the book.

In the dealer’s room, you could find everything from soundtracks to back issues of Ugly Things Magazine, but there were also displays for new items from Kiss and the Beatles, with a large plush, Yellow Submarine, limited to 200 copies, drawing particular attention. Meanwhile, metal centric label Roadrunner Records and Shout Factory also had booths, promoting their latest wares as did New York indie rockers Coheed and Cambria.
