California super majority wants to lower threshold for tax hikes for development projects

In case you thought there would be a moratorium on tax hikes in California since the state JUST scored a windfall with Prop 30, think again.

The new super majority Legislature has just begun and has already put forward the following bills to lower the threshold from 2/3rds to 55% to get tax hikes for things like new development. This AFTER we finally eliminated "redevelopment" after realizing it was nothing more than a giant slush fund for politicians and developers.

I had NO doubt the legislators would be super busy finding ways to allocate tax dollars to developers and other construction industry special interests and low and behold they are.....

Senate Constitutional Amendment 3 (SCA 3), Mark Leno (D—San Francisco): Lowers the threshold for school district per parcel property taxes from two-thirds to 55%.

Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 (SCA 4), Carol Liu (D—La Canada) and Senate Constitutional Amendment 8 (SCA 8), Ellen Corbett (D—San Leandro): Lowers the threshold for the imposition, extension or increase of local transportation special taxes from the Proposition 13-mandated two-thirds vote to 55%. Most transportation special tax increases consist of very regressive sales tax hikes.

Senate Constitutional Amendment 9 (SCA 9), Ellen Corbett (D—San Leandro): Lowers the threshold from two-thirds to 55% to increase special taxes to fund community and economic development projects.

Write to your state reps and tell them NO to lowering this threshold! We have been taxed ENOUGH!
