Catch Me if You Can -- Smash and Flee in Midday El Cajon

On 9/18/11 at about 11:38 pm, the driver of a Nissan Maxima going east bound on East Main Street in El Cajon, lost control of his vehicle striking the center median at Claydelle and Main. The driver swerved across the center median several times into oncoming traffic lanes, narrowly missing the large trees in the center median.

The car left the roadway and crashed into an occupied business at 532 E. Main St. No one in the business was injured but they sure were rattled, and before lunch!

The vehicle caused major damage to the façade of the building. Building officials from the City of El Cajon responded to inspect the building.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot.

The passenger suffered significant head injuries and was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment, but his injuries appear not to be life threatening.

The driver of the vehicle is still at large and their injuries are unknown at this time. This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information on the collision or the identity of the driver of the vehicle is asked to contact Hit and Run Detective T. Roberts at 619-441-1632
