El Camino glad to be back at home

Wildcats run Otay Ranch out of Oceanside

El Camino guard Steven Aldridge dials up a three-pointer in the first half against Otay Ranch.

For El Camino, it feels good to be home. In their first home game in nearly a month, the Wildcats crushed Otay Ranch 93-64 on Saturday afternoon.

“It felt good to be back at home and win a home game,” said El Camino center Luke Evans.

El Camino used a big second quarter to run away from Otay Ranch. At the break, the Wildcats were ahead 48-21.

Evans led all scorers with 26 points and finished 8-for-10 from the line. Three other Wildcats finished in double figures as El Camino’s suffocating man-to-man defense led to numerous fast break opportunities.

“It gives me a chance to get easy fast break layups and dunks,” Evans said.

Since their last home game on Dec. 9, the Wildcats (14-2) have played in the San Fernando Valley Tournament and the Cathedral City Tournament. In those two tournaments, the Wildcats went (record).

“We played better quality teams and started to play team basketball,” Evans said.

Point guard Alex Perez led Otay Ranch (9-7) with 23 points.
