In couple years from now defensive coordinators who have to face Valhalla’s offense and more importantly Pete Thomas will be glad he has moved on to his D-I school of choice, whoever and wherever that may be. The junior has Valhalla High School undefeated going into tomorrows night match up against Grossmont and a very pleased Coach Sutton will lead his team against Grossmont lookin to go 4-0 on the season.
Last week Grossmont hosted Monte Vista in a game that looked something right out of the 1960’s with the 7-0 score and run attitude of both teams. It was a huge surprise seeing Grossmont attempting to mimic the game plan of Monte Vista. The Monarchs offensive focused on all running and hardly any passing.
Critics and sportswriters thought the Foothillers had a passing attack behind Tyler Mutter who is averaging over 178 passing yards a game even after last weeks dismal performance. The passing game of Grossmont was not shut down; in my opinion it never was called in by the coaching staff. Grossmont was run, run, and run. That doesn’t bode well this week against Valhalla if they choose to do the same.
Valhalla is in a habit of scoring early and scoring fast which has forced opponents to play catch up in the first 3 games. If that happens to Grossmont on Friday night look out because Valhalla’s defense has been one of the best so far in East County led by their staple in the middle Travis Hitt. This LB is a tackling machine. Last week he had 18 in a game. If the Foothillers are playing catch up they’ll have to watch out for the flying “D” of the Norsemen.
On paper or off paper the Valhalla’s offense is looking like the West Hills offense of the mid 90’s which spells troubles for any school on the schedule. Sorry Grossmont, after seeing your game last Friday East County Football Blog has to take the Pete Thomas Express again this week.
Prediction (Valhalla 35 – Grossmont 17)
