Tight tapered jeans, shaggy hair, and a washed out vintage t-shirt. Seems to be the uniform of choice these days for your post spock rockin kids here in the GH. Oh, don't forget the .00 ear plugs or the umpteenth tattoo's of sparkly stars adorning the shoulders of nearly every female within a 2 mile radius. Don't get me wrong though, these are my peeps and I luv 'em.
You wouldn't think these days GH was filled with the seasoned scenesters of yester year but what do ya' know, low and behold the streets are alive again. Saturday's mean something once more.
It's not the grinding melodies of your favorite San Diego noise rockers in your buddies living room or the good ol' ritualistic Saturday's at Faque Burger (r.i.p.). Nowadays the instrument of choice for the GH elite is a 10-speed. Yes, a bicycle.
If you have pair of tight jeans, sport tattoo's and piercings; your in. Provided of course you have an old Schwinn to peddle. Show up at the corner of 25th and Market anytime between 9 and 10 pm on a given Saturday night to experience the biggest two wheel rally this side of Sturgis.
I'm not sure who started this rally or even when. It has certainly grown over the last couple months into the gargantuan mass exodus it is today. The streets are completely taken over. Heading down 25th towards the park and up to 30th heading to NP. You'll know what I mean when you show up to your local watering hole and there are 50 bikes chained up out front.
Any given Saturday will turn out hundreds of enthusiasts. No joke. So dust off the huffy and get out and ride. Hope to see you there. Cheers.
