About a week ago, I wandered by the southeast corner of 6th & F, where the prior restaurant, EXY, had closed some time ago. The name on the awnings was 'Quality Social'. The door was open so I wandered in. There were 4 fellers sitting around talking. There are 2 bars, tables & chairs, so I assumed it was a new restaurant. I was right! I asked lots of questions & learned their main focus is Happy Hour, $5 call drinks, special prices on Chacuterie (per Webster's, a delicatessen specializing in dressed meats and meat dishes; also : the products sold in such a shop). I later spoke to a friend who heard from someone that this was a good place. They open at 5 PM.

On Friday, we wandered over to check it out. It is a large space with plenty of room, in case they ever need it. There are a few tables & stools outside. The high stools look uncomfortable and maybe would be better in "Wonderland (Alice)". We wandered inside and to the left, past the bar where there are maybe 6 booths. We took a booth in the middle. A waitress brought over the menus and gave a rather poor explanation on ordering. Under the heading Chacuterie, there are about 12 items listed. Underneath it states: collection 4 for $10, individual selections, $5.

This is not an extensive menu and is best for Happy Hour. We ordered drinks. I had a margarita, in a small rocks glass with lots of rocks. The drink was good, but it was about 1/2 size of a normal drink. My friend ordered a glass of wine. It was a generous pour and she enjoyed it. I had picked out 4 items from the Chacuterie list and the waitress explained that the chef picks out the 'collection' each day. I advised the menu should state that. She agreed but said that was the way it is done. She pointed out my choices and I ordered them. DW (my friend) decided to go to the other side (not with Darth Vader, the other side of the menu!). She ordered tomato soup & grilled cheese sandwich. I have never had deviled egg in a restaurant, until now. The eggs are soaked in beet juice and they turn a lovely color of pink. It also gives the white part some flavor. The filling was 'normal' and I liked it. The pate was good, but rather greasy. The bread basket was filled generously. It was a hard crusted very good bread, substantial enough to spread the pate. The duck rillett (per Webster's: cooked shredded meat; as pork or duck or fish preserved in fat). This was entirely unpalatable. I could not take more than a bite. It had a sour flavor & plenty of gristle. The brie was quite good, very creamy with a nice light flavor. I advised our waitress of the disappointment in the duck & she brought another deviled egg! This was after some prodding and my suggestion that she tell the chef. Otherwise, she just wandered by once in awhile wanting to get us another drink.

I do not recall her name, but she was snooty & not very helpful. We asked if they had any desserts. One! Apparently the chef picks one each week. On Friday they were serving a brownie, topped with vanilla gelato. I asked if they put chocolate sauce on top & she got this surprised look and said, "how did you know that?"

I would not recommend this place. The ambience was non existent. There is no "theme" no particular style; a bar with booths & tables. The music was too loud and we were shouting at each other. Several more people wandered in and there were about 15-18 people there when we left. The food is an eclectic mix, minimal choices and just not to my liking. The margarita was skimpy but the wine was a generous pour.

If you have been to Quality Social, I would like to know your opinion. I do not think this place will survive.

So long

Wise is slitting her wrists as we speak.

I hope she (Ms. Wise) goes over there. I would like to know what she thinks. I think it was on restaurant.com (I think)where a guy wrote a glowing review. And, I heard it thru the grapevine that a restaurant critic gave it 3 stars. That is a rather mediocre score. I just did not like it.
