Yeah, I doubt it also. It's a pretty benign, if not downright mundane piece.— April 30, 2012 4:39 p.m.
Filner Sets Fundraiser at Oceanview Mansion of Once Imprisoned La Jolla Lawyer
If I remember correctly, when he died, Salk was still married to Francoise Gilot. I would imagine the house would have been hers unless Salk had made other prior arrangements. If Salk did leave the house for Gilot, it would be no surprise that she didn't keep it. She often said that she didn't care for La Jolla, that she preferred New York and Paris. Do you know the address of the Salk house? I would like to take a look at it. I have read that it is actually a pretty simple house, albeit one with spectacular views of the Pacific.— April 30, 2012 4:37 p.m.
Sweetwater Union HS District Rescinds 19 Layoffs, but at What Cost?
Actually, his bio page on the SUHSD board members page has him starting his career at Southwest HS. He wrote that he taught math and science, and coached sports before moving into admin. I have a cousin who taught in Sweetwater for a long time. She says it's the same guy.— April 30, 2012 11:42 a.m.

Remember, it's Hostess, not Wonder Bread, that filed Chapter 1. They do have a $75 million financing commitment from a group of lenders, so they have been able to maintain operations so far. They quit paying into the union pension funds because they could not afford to make both those payments and stay current on its $700 million in outstanding loans. They have asked the 2 unions for some concessions, but as of 2 weeks ago, the answer is still no. Smart move by the unions. If Hostess ends up having to liquidate, the unions would most likely end up behind all of the other creditors in the queue and may end up with nothing. And if either of the 2 unions decide to go on strike, then the lenders will pull their financing, which in all likelihood force Hostess into liquidation. Better stock up on those twinkies and dingdongs while you can.— April 30, 2012 11:27 a.m.

A TALE OF TWO LEGENDS
According to the Newport Ocean Sailing Assn., there apparently was a collision between the Agean and a much larger vessel. The boat disappeared off the online race tracking system about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.— April 29, 2012 9:54 a.m.

You must mean "Paint It Black"?? "If I look hard enough into the settin' sun My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes"— April 27, 2012 1:45 a.m.

I have heard that last week, Blair was told that he column was going to be cut back to a once a week thing, with an occasional 2nd column, emphasis on occasional. Apparently that didn't go over too well. Supposedly though, he and Jeff Light have been talking for a couple of days and there is a chance he may go back, albeit with a lesser amount of weekly columns than before. I believe Blair graduated from SDSU in 1971, so that would make him somewhere around 64/65 or so?— April 27, 2012 1:35 a.m.
U-T Saw Ryan Leaf as a Savior
His contract was $31.25 million, including the guaranteed $11.25 million signing bonus. I don't remember the yearly breakdowns, but since Leaf was released after the 3rd year of a 4 yr contract, it would seem that he received the bulk of it, minus of course his various fines and what ever amount he lost while suspended. I'm guessing he got somewhere around $25 million total or so— April 25, 2012 2:53 p.m.
