So is Manchester negotiating to buy LA Times?
Yes, a typo. There are several LAT articles in which it is written that Geffen offered $2billion for LAT, which was about 10x it's cash flow, but Tribune rebuffed his offer to buy just the paper. This was before the Eli Broad/Ron Burkle offer to buy Tribune for $8billion, which at the time was higher than Zell's bid.— February 13, 2013 1:18 p.m.
Kiss statue returns to San Diego Bay
They are where Harbor Island Drive splits off to run along the bay. One of them is in the median between the 2 northbound lanes leading away from the bay the other in the next median to the left. I just noticed that if you zoom in to the 20ft scale, you can see them plainly, same if you go to streetview in the left northbound lane, but if you go to street view in the right northbound lane, the one coming from the east side, they are gone and all you see is a patch of fresh turf where the tall sculpture was. That image is dated Jan 2011. The image when viewed from in between the 2 lanes is dated Dec 2008, so I guess I remembered correctly when I thought they were a temp display— February 13, 2013 1:05 p.m.

The "circles" are what I was referring to in my comment. I think they have been there for a while. The google image is Jan 2011 and I'm pretty sure they were there a couple of yrs before that— February 13, 2013 1:05 p.m.

Haven't been by the airport in a long time Didn't know those were still there. It's actually weathering steel; the alloy causes allows a thin layer of rust to form which actually protects the metal. They are by a French Artist named Bernar Venet, He had about a dozen or so pieces on display in various places around SD a 2 or 3 yrs ago, but I thought it was only supposed to be temporarily. We say a couple more in the median on Harbor Island, This one is called Arcs in Disorder: 4 Arcs x 5, At the time he had a spot in a gallery in Little Italy. Bugatti hired him last year to makes some pieces for their ad campaign: http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/feb/1…— February 13, 2013 9:27 a.m.
So is Manchester negotiating to buy LA Times?
Zell didn't outid Geffen for the LA Times, he just went ahead and bought the whole Tribune conglomerate. Zell met with Geffen about a possible sale of the LAT. I had read that Geffen's offer was $2 million but Zell wanted at least $2.5, possibly more because of the tax implications of spinning off the LAT from Tribune. And don't forget that only about 3yrs ago, Geffen was "interested" in buying NYT. At one point, he offered a $250 million "loan" when NYT had cash flow problems, but instead they took a loan from Carlos Slim. I read one aricle in NY Magazine that he actually wanted to take over control of the paper and tern it into a non-profit.— February 12, 2013 3:39 p.m.

Boxer, Markey demand San Onofre investigation
Don Bauder, Yes, I did note your use of the word demand. However, I perceived that to be your choice of words. In all of the other accounts I read, WP, LAT, NYT, HP, etc, the strongest phrase I read was that she was pressing federal regulators. In fact, many accounts have Boxer's letter asking NRC Chairman Gregory Jackzo to thoroughly assess the conditions at San Onofre., similar to the letter she and Diane Feinstein sent to in March of 2011. I have reviewed the press releases on Boxers official Senate website and as recently as 8 AM this morning, there is nothing there; same thing for Rep. Markey. If you have a link to the actual release, please share. In any event, I doubt that the word Demand was used. As I said, I perceive the use of the word demand as your choice of words for the headline. Perhaps I didn't make my own point succinctly enough. As the chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, whose Clean Air and Nuclear Safety subcommittee has jurisdiction over the NRC, it would seem to me that Boxer would have the authority to be able to compel the NRC to investigate. No demanding, no urging, no asking. instead, simpliy telling the chairman of the NRC that he WILL investigate. Admittedly, my career included neither time as a member of Congress nor the Chairmanship of a federal agency. But since the NRC is an independent agency and Boxer's committee has jurisdiction over it, it would seem that she , or the committee at the very least would have the power to compel.— February 7, 2013 10:42 a.m.
