The Hit Man I Can't Forget
If you mean the Hollywood Stars, we saw them a few of times at the Whisky. They opened for Journey one time I think. At one time they were one of the hot L.A. bands, depending on which version you saw. We used to see them at the old Starwood too, which was one of the major clubs back in the day.— May 5, 2011 5:47 p.m.
The Hit Man I Can't Forget
My wife and I spent a little time on the strip. From probably somewhere around 75 or 76 till she found out she was pregnant in 82, we made it over the hill at some point most Friday and/or Saturday nights. I have to say that I don't remember a place called HoB back then. But I'm not saying it wasn't. More than a few memories are, shall we say, "fuzzy" from back then, Lol. We have always been rockers, but for a while we also got into punk and new wave, We used to see bands like X, Black Flag Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, even the Go-Go's were kind of punk at the time. My wife still to this day says we saw her favorite singer, Johnette Napolitano, play someplace pre CB, but I honestly can't remember it. Sometimes we just met up with a bunch of friends for the midnight showing of RHPS at the old Tiffany theatre, which is still there. I think I remember Club 88. Wasn't it more or less pretty much a dive punk club? Somewhere way down on west Pico, just off the 10 I think. Pay for play was the deal then. I had friends in bands who had to buy like 250 tickets from a club and get to play maybe a 1/2, 45 minute set and not even get a break on the drinks. We saw Van Halen play Gazzarri's a few times. DLR used to tell the story of how they'd play their set there and Bill Gazzarri would call him Van because he thought the band was his. Apparently DLR thought so to. Lol A lot of good times back then, but it looking back it was a pretty sleazy place.— May 5, 2011 2:26 p.m.
Where were you when????
Don't know so much about the M-4 being DEVGRP's weapon. They pretty much have their pick and I'm sure a variety of weapons were used to breach the building. Not too long ago, I read that Heckler & Koch were contracted to supply the SEALs with the HK45C sidearm. I wouldn't be surprised if on of those supplied the head shot. I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the team were using suppressed HK416's. H&P's are said to be one of their favorites. On 11-22-63 I was a freshman in High school. It was also my grandfather's 70th birthday. My brother and I were not in school that day. Because it was a Friday, w were going to be heading to my grandparent's place in Topanga. There was going to be a big family BBQ that evening. On 9-11 my family was all at home. My wife and I have been getting up at 6am for as long as I can remember. Somehow, for some reason we both awoke about an hour earlyeven though we were both on vacation. According to the girls, one of whom was starting her soph year in college and the other a freshman in high school, they woke up and heard us so they got up. We were all having breakfast when the first report broke. We pretty much stayed glued to the tv, as they say, all day. This past Sunday, we had just come home from a late dinner with some friends. We literally had just walked in the door when my wife received a text from our oldest daugher. She had just seen the crawl across the screen. Before the President actually came out to give his address, both of the girls had made it to the house. We were eating ice cream during his address; Double French Vanilla; Homemede.— May 5, 2011 1:27 p.m.
U.S. Kills Osama bin Laden: Reports
surfpuppy619, the SEALS are split between the east coast at NAB Little Creek and west coast at NAB Coronado and Hawaii at NS Pearl Harbor. All BUD/s training is done at NAB Coronado, but after BUD/S, they have 4 months of SQT, which is done at various locations. SEAL TEAM 6 is basically black ops, they don't officially exist and there is no official SEAL TEAM 6 designation; officially they're called the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. They even have a separate base in Virginia. As I said, the baddest of the bad. I believe there are 11 teams with nine active and two reserve and about 2500 strong including command and support. They are tasked to JSOC, which means they report to the president and pretty much operate with impunity. If you want a good picture of SEAL TEAM 6, try reading 'Rogue Warrior". It was written by the guy who founded them, Dick Marcinko. I read it several yeaars ago and someone I know who is familiar with the SEALS says it's pretty acurate.— May 4, 2011 1:27 a.m.
U.S. Kills Osama bin Laden: Reports
I have been told the raid was conducted by SEAL TEAM 6. SEAL TEAM 6 was created about 30 yrs ago. After the failed attempt to recue the US hostages in Iran the Navy decided it needed a full-time Counter-Terrorist Team. SEALS are the most BAD-ASS operators in the military and SEAL TEAM 6 are the most BAD-ASS of all. In October of 2001, Bush signed an Executive Order authorizing the assassination of bin laden. It was never rescinded. There was never a question about taking him alive, imo.— May 3, 2011 1:39 p.m.
U-T's Tom Gores Mugs for Cameras in Detroit
Remember, it's not a done deal yet. He actually hasn't finished the deal yet and the NBA hasn't approved the sale yet. There's always time for things to change. 6 months ago, the founder of Little Caesars Pizza was all set to buy the team. Then he had his accountants go thru the books and he dropped the deal like a hot potato. And this guy was no virgin when it comes to sports team ownership; he also owns the Tigers and the Redwings. Maybe he saw something that Gores missed. Or maybe Gores just wants a sports team as a trophy, sort of like some guy up here in L.A.. What was his name again??? Oh yeah McCourt. HAHAHA— May 3, 2011 10:26 a.m.
Billboard on Morena Boulevard Predicts May 21 Will Be Judgment Day
Religion and politics DO indeed mix. They are both about the same things: Money and power. Plain and simple My family now only consists of myself , my wife and our two kids and my wife's sister, her husband and their two kids. so it's not as much fun. But when when both of our parents and some of our grandparents were alive, those were some of the best conversations. My wife's mom and dad were born in France and England, her only surviving grandparents were both born in France in the late 1800's and one of my grandfathers was born in Ireland and my grandmother in Belgium. Imagine the conversation in that room the couple of times they were all together. Fun times, I'll tell you that.— May 2, 2011 9:43 a.m.
U.S. Kills Osama bin Laden: Reports
Mr. Bauder, You say you're disheartened politicians are telling Americans that the war on terror is not over yet you yourself say you worry that Osama bin Laden's killing will exacerbate terrorism rather than quell it. Would you prefer that those politicians, including the President, lie and tell us that everything is fine and that there's no longer anything to worry about? I don't understand the logic of your statement. Perhaps you would explain it to us. With that said I'm off. The count down has begun. Nine more days left until freedom.— May 2, 2011 9:34 a.m.
U.S. Kills Osama bin Laden: Reports
Actually every "talking head" I have heard seems to think reprisal is possible. Most, if not all US military and diplomatic locations around the world have been on a heightened watch since before the raid took place— May 1, 2011 11:24 p.m.
The Federal Reserve's Money Orgy
Anyone who thinks Perot's votes cost Bush the election will never change their mind anymore than people with the opposite opinion will. For every exit poll survey interpreted one way you can find one interpreted the other. You believe Perot pulled alot more votes from Bush than Clinton and I believe it was about even. Neither one of us can prove their viewpoint conclusively. But one thing almost every exit survey agrees on is that of the voters who thought Bush's broken promise of "No New Taxes" was "very important," 2/3of them voted for Clinton. Remember also, the ecomony was in recession and Bush was putting more emphasis on the Desert Storm victory. James Carville came up with the brilliant slogan " It's the Economy, Stupid" to remind voters that the economy wasn't getting better under Bush. Also a lot of pro choice republicans, yes there used to be some of those, didn't vote for Bush because of his stance on abortion. You can stick to your opinion ad I'll stick to mine:I don't think Perot cost Bush the election, I think Bush lost it all on his own.— May 1, 2011 6:44 p.m.
