Desert Oasis in Indian Canyons, Palm Springs
surfpuppy619, A little too hot, what are you, some kind of pampered poodle? LOL It normally hits 95 as a high by mid May and doesn't go below that for a high until mid October. Of course there is that 2 1/2 months or so where the high is 105 or above. But even during the hot months, the temp drops about 30 degrees or so at night, so it's really pretty nice most evenings, perfect pool weather. And really, there's not a lot of difference between 95 and 105... it's a dry heat. This little story had good timing. Next Friday morning, my wife and I are heading out there for about 10 days or so. Right now at my house, according to my weather station, it's 61, and there's a little bit of a drizzle.According to the forecast, it's probably not going to much above 70 before next Friday and will be in the 60's most of the time we're gone. We're ready for some sun.— May 8, 2011 12:15 p.m.
U.S. Jobs Rise Sharply but Unemployment Rate Up
McDonald’s did hire 62,000 people last month, but that was on April 19, in a one-day recruiting program nationwide. Those hires wouldn’t have counted in the U.S. job tally because the government’s monthly survey of employers, which is used to determine net job gains or losses, was done the previous week, said Joe LaVorgna, economist at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2011/05/…— May 6, 2011 8:51 p.m.
Vallejo to Emerge from Bankruptcy -- Bruised
Unless some of those uberrich don't make San Diego their legal place of residence. Is it possible that some of them have chosen a state with a lesser, or perhaps no state income tax?— May 6, 2011 4:40 p.m.
Gores Brothers Finalists in Bidding for Warner Music
Apparently, Gores bid wasn't quite good enough. Warner Music Group has agreed to a purchase by Access Industries. Access Industries is a privately held, U.S.-based company focusing in three sectors: natural resource and chemicals; media and telecommunications; and real estate. It is owned by Russian-American businessman Len Blavatnik. Forbes has been estimated Blavatnik's net worth at $7.5 billion. Access has been a major shareholder in WMG since 2004.— May 6, 2011 8:34 a.m.
Vallejo to Emerge from Bankruptcy -- Bruised
Barely $600 a year less than L.A. and San Diego is about only $500 a month higher. Of course, I'm sure San Diego has a far higher percentage of service industry related jobs than does Vallejo and probably many of the uberwealthy earn their money from companies headquartered elsewhere.— May 6, 2011 8:08 a.m.
Vallejo to Emerge from Bankruptcy -- Bruised
According to this in 2009 the median family income in Vallejo was $71,275 and the per capita income $26,455. In San Diego it's $75,492 and $32,348. Up in my neck of the woods it's $52,932 and $27,070 no data on average salary. Census 2010 data for Ca. is to be released next week. http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/ACSSAFFFacts…— May 6, 2011 1 a.m.
The Hit Man I Can't Forget
Had to have been probably at least 77 if the guy was playing with RS. We say RS twice in 75. He did 2 tours, one in the spring one in the fall. Those were the last tours he did with Faces. Woody played on the Stones tour in between that summer and after the fall tour was over, "officially" joined the Stones. My wife and I both remember the fall concert well. the opening act was Lynyrd Skynyrd. To this day it's still one of the best concerts we've ever see. I'm pretty certain RS didn't do a US tour for almost 2 yrs after that. The Faces broke up after Woody and then RS quit and it took him a while to put a new touring band together and get another record out. I remember the next time they toured, Carmine Appice was on drums. Beck, Bogart and Appice was one oof my favorite, though short lived, Jeff Beck incarnations— May 5, 2011 11:04 p.m.

Vallejo to Emerge from Bankruptcy -- Bruised
Over 2 yrs ago, the bk judge said the city of Vallejo had the authority to void its existing union contracts and that public workers do not enjoy the same protections Congress gave union workers at private companies. Under Chapter 9 munies can re-write cba's. But what of changing the benefits of those already vested or receiving benefits? It took me a while to find this, but it's something that was refered to in something I read a while back. It seems to suggest that in some cases intent of the courts is to prevent local governments from taking away already accrued benefits without providing comparable benefits in exchange, but not to prevent a local governments from modifying pension benefits that have not yet been earned. Maybe that's why no one has taken it on yet. http://www.seethebenefits.com/showarticle.aspx?Sh… http://scocal.stanford.edu/opinion/kern-v-city-lo…— May 5, 2011 7:56 p.m.
