Blow Out the Pilot Light: JLo and Marc Anthony Kaput!
didn't say Out of Sight wasn't a good movie, it is. But I also think Get Shorty is just as good. Maybe it's because i live in L.A. and recognize so much of what happens in the movie. But i don't believe Scott Frank did the screen play on any of the movies you mentioned, which was my point. Good book, good screen play, good director, good movie. It doesn't matter how good the director is, if he doesn't have good material to start with, he's not gonna turn a pile of crap into a rose. My personal favorite adaptation is actually a tv show: "Justified". Not a literal adaptation from a single work, more an amalgamation of a character from a couple of novels and a short story. I haven't read the novels, but I did read the short story "Fire in the Hole" after listening to an interview with Timothy Olyphant and found it quite good. Gotta say though, I loved Mr. Majestyk. ferklempt is another, less commonly used, spelling of verklempt. But as the son in law of 2 French Jews who lived in NYC for many years, I can tell you the V was clearly pronounced; actually, I've never heard it the other way. Overwhelmed, distraught, choked up, extremely emotional, they're all pretty much the same. I guess you missed the Mike Myers reference, though.— July 18, 2011 4:51 p.m.

But you have to consider the source, Elmore Leonard is an outstanding writer. And it's not coincidence that the same guy who did the screen play for Out of Sight also did the screen play for Get Shorty, another Elmore Leonard novel that was turned into a great movie.— July 18, 2011 9:50 a.m.

San Diego State Wants Someone to Find It Big Money
What do you think of the new guy getting a $100k raise over what Weber made? It makes hime the 2nd highest paid college president in the whole cal state system! Unbelievable if you ask me!— July 9, 2011 8:40 a.m.
Money for Studies at San Onofre
The richter scale is a logarithmic scale, a base 10 logarithmic scale in this case. That means there is a tenfold difference in measured strenght for each whole magnitude of incresae. A 4.0 is 10 times stronger than a 3.0, a 6.5 is 10 times stronger than a 5.5, ect. For one whole magnitude of increase, the amount of energy released is 31 times grater. Perhaps that's what you are refering to, surfpuppy619. I have lived in L. A. my whole life(except for college) and I have literally watched the scientists at CalTech try and explain the difference at least a hundred time. It's not the strenght of the quake that causes the damage, it's the energy released. But there are so many variables that can affect the type of damage.— July 8, 2011 12:03 p.m.
Juan Vargas Takes Money From Real Estate PAC, Brian Bilbray Goes Skeet Shooting
" A day of shooting sports in suburban Virginia is not at all politically correct" You're kidding, right? You do know that the NRA hq is in Virginia, don't you. Not to mention that the Commonwealth has some of the most liberal gun laws in the country. It's almost politically incorrect NOT to take part in shooting sports— July 7, 2011 10:41 a.m.
San Diego State Wants Someone to Find It Big Money
Surfpuppy619. He just left. His retirement was effective yesterday, but with the long weekend and all, he probably cleaned out the office last week. At least it wasn't a suprise. Fifteen years is a pretty good tenure for a college president these days. My SIL was there before he arrived and is an ardent supporter. She says he did good things while he was there. She did say something interest. She remembers him saying in an interview 4 or 5 yrs ago that he wasn't thinking about retiring anytime soon, that the time to leave was when it wasn't fun anymore. I guess he's not having fun anymore.— July 6, 2011 10:42 a.m.
Scripps Investments & Loans 17 percent return didn't last
Yep. never been to federal court, but I know the area well. Next time you're there, you should drop in and say high to the mayor, City Hall is right across Temple. You cant miss the feds building. it's right there on the right when you exit NB at Wilshire.— July 2, 2011 9:31 a.m.
Scripps Investments & Loans 17 percent return didn't last
wow, how funny is that! I used the L.A. office as an example because we live here. In fact, we live maybe 7 miles away from there.I didn't realize you are L.A. From your postings, I assumed you lived in San Diego. So I'm sure you're familiar with the building. It's the big tower off the 405 at Wilshire, right actoss from the Cemetary. I've never personally "visited" the feds offices, but we have been to there to deal with some passport issues.— July 1, 2011 10:03 a.m.
