I can relate. Last year, my daughter (21), got married and moved to Hawaii. I hadn't heard from her, and then got the bright idea to look her up on myspace to see if she was still alive. Good God! She had a pictorial expose showing herself getting an "industrial strength rod" stuck in her upper ear, and four tattoos. One tattoo was on her hand, and one was on her shoulder! I always said if you do get a tattoo (and hopefully, you won't) at least get it where it won't be seen. She looked as if she was going to faint and I nearly did too. About ten years ago, my son, who's 31, was living with my mom. He came home one day looking sick. He was in pain and could hardly move. For three days my mother stressed over him, but he insisted he was all right. On the fourth day, she finally broke him. He took off his shirt and had new tattoos all over his back and a martial arts chain around his waist, She said my dad cried when he found out about it. I wanted to, too. I went without a Diet Coke for 9 months when I was pregnant, so he wouldn't have any defects. Then he goes and does a thing like that! Well, the only good news is that almost everyone of their generation is doing it, so piercings and tattoos won't count against them in the future. I remember the days when long-haired boys couldn't get a job and now I see clerks with dirty, stringy hair at the mall. I guess it will all work out in the end.— August 7, 2010 11:47 p.m.

At a rally to support the checkpoints last spring, the word going around was that DUIs have gone down by 31 percent since the checkpoints began. If I'm not mistaken, Chief Maher backed up that statistic when he spoke.— August 6, 2010 3:27 a.m.

What an unfair, untruthful and biased article based on the rantings of a housewife. I have gone through numerous checkpoints over the years, and have never had a problem. It's o.k. that illegal immigrants cause accidents, drive with no licenses or insurance and nothing happens to them? They take their chances when they engage in illegal behavior. Chief Maher is a wonderful man who does a great job. For all of you who think lawbreakers should be able to do whatever they want to, be sure to buy no-fault insurance. That's what a lawyer told me to do when my car was smashed by an illegal immigrant and had money to pay for it.— August 6, 2010 3:10 a.m.

No one knows for sure? How about Caulkin and Feldman? They know for sure. They said he was innocent. Regarding the $20 million--Michael said his attorney couldn't guarantee him that he'd get off (no attorney can), so he just paid the money to make the problem go away, so he'd be assured he wouldn't serve time. Makes sense to me. What kind of fool would let their child stay over night with a grown man? Perhaps someone who knew the guy was rich and could easily be taken advantage of? Everyone who knew Michael--Lionel Richie, Berry Gordy, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson--stood behind him without a doubt, and yet some people refuse to see him as not guilty. The only people who accused him were people who had something to gain by it. What a crazy world we live in! No, I wasn't Michael's lover. I was Gene Page's lover. He thought I deserved a better lot than to be in love with a married man. He wanted me to marry Michael and have a dozen kids. But the truth is, the minute I saw Gene, I couldn't see anyone else. My mistake. Last sumer, I put on over 25 pounds. I cried all summer. And as often happens when I've suffered for a prolonged period of time, I had to have surgery for skin cancer. I had it removed on my face in the morning, had reconstructive surgery in the afternoon, and had my eye sewn shut for about a week. If you think all this comes as a result of lying, be my guest. I knew I was contradicting myself last year, and my grief over lsoing Michael was so big, I didn't care. I considered suicide because that was easier than bearing the pain. You can bash me over it for all eternity, and you will never begin to touch that place inside of me that holds all the grief. The pain is bigger than anything you could possibly inflict. Two days ago, I watched my dad die of cancer. So I'm eating and crying my way through another summer. I figure by fall, I'll either die from diabetes or I'll just plain explode. I probably won't last long enough to have another surgery. You may have the memories, my dear, wrapped up with a bow. For all the good they did me, to watch people suffer and die through gun fire, and waiting for a kidney transplant, for drinking oneself to death, to dying in one's sleep. Take them all. I'm glad to be done with them. After watching what my dad went through, and knowing we all have to die, I think Conrad Murray may be onto something, by just letting a patient go to sleep forever.— July 10, 2010 12:41 a.m.

In his book, "The Michael Jackson Tapes," Rabbi Schmuley, says Michael didn't have an interest in all children, just certain ones. Michael wasn't interested in children per se, he was interested in children who were "losing their childhood," because he felt he had lost his childhood too. He tried to be the person to them, that wasn't there to rescue him. A therapist once said I rescue dogs for the same reason. As a boy, Michael's tutor would give him warm milk and read to him in bed. It was the most wonderful time of his childhood. He tried to do the same thing for the boys, but it backfired on him. With all the sychophants surrounding him, and virtually no parenting, he didn't know boundaries. He also thought he was above the rules--why wouldn't he? People said much the same thing about Gene Page--the person who arranged "Never Can Say Good-bye," when he offered to get me an apartment and a job. People thought he was out to take advantage of me. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was about the only man in Hollywood who wasn't. He and Michael had hearts that people just don't see every day, thus they assume these men were up to no good. That's what they are accustomed to seeing. Gene paid Barry White's rent, and then went on to arrange all of Barry's music for him. He wasn't out for sex. He had lost his own dream of being a star due to his color, and made up for it by giving stardom to others. Michael had Corey Feldman stay with him, and Corey insists Michael didn't molest him. Why? Because Corey Feldman was rich and famous in his own right. He wasn't out to make a name for himself, get attention, or make a quick buck. He had no motive to destroy Michael, and probably didn't want to. Both Gene and Michael were special, and that's what made their music so special. It wasn't the other way around. I think it's a good idea not to start all that again. There is a story behind it, however. I was talking to the guy it was about. He was charming, and I went all ga ga when I talked to him. When I hung up, I just sat at the computer and typed it out in about ten minutes. I had my finger poised over the delete button, and then I thought, Wouldn't it be funny if I posted this on my blog? I thought jaws would drop because I hadn't seen anything like this before. I thought, what the hell? And posted it. When I got the e-mail that I had won first place, I couldn't think of anything I had in the running. I sent my husband's picture and info, and got a response from the editor. He said the "Craigslist piece" had won, and since it's from a woman's point of view, he'd rather have a picture of a woman, although he could write it off as creative writing. I couldn't believe it. I sure didn't want my face next to that story in every Reader in the county! I think it won because there was nothing better. And then certain high-minded posters criticize the low quality of the winning stories. Well, kick yourself in the butt then, because your stories must have been worse. Another reason it may have won was because it gives a middle finger to the rules, which is what the Reader is about. I certainly didn't consider it a threat to the classics. I got offended when SDaniels said that the stories were bad because I had been in a winning category several times. Later I realized that I'd won under different usernames, so she may not have known that. Even when I explained that to her, the fight was on. I couldn't stop it. She wasn't going to like me one way or another, so what? The hs teacher that posted his nasty put down on that thread, gets an e-mail from me, every time I get published. The heading says, "Oops I did it again!" I also calculate the money I made per hour for that particular piece as compared with what a teacher makes.
