State Bowl Scoreboard
Just returned from the Cathedral Catholic - St. Mary's Championship Bowl game. Wow! What a very competitive, very exciting game! Cathedral showed the stuff it is made of !!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on bringing another State Championship to San Diego. Go Dons!— December 20, 2008 9:17 p.m.
Quarterfinals Scoreboard
Whoa! Let's go back a bit! Ramona loses this week to an unranked Steele Canyon team? A team that Cathedral Catholic beat like a drum? Is that the same Ramona Division III team that tied Division II, No. 1 Ranked Oceanside? What is this vaunted Ramona team (who tied Oceanside) doing losing to an unranked Division III team, Steele Canyon? Congratulations Steele Canyon! This should have signaled to all what would come in the Southern California Championship Bowl selection process! Isn't it amazing what you can see when you take a real good look?— December 19, 2008 12:18 p.m.
CIF Section Finals Scoreboard
Cathedral Catholic Dons! You left no doubt in anyone's mind that you are the one to represent the CIF South in the upcoming Division II State Championship Bowl! The selection process bore that out! Congratulations! Cathedral Catholic HS vs. Stockton St. Mary's on December 20th! Go Dons! PS - Oceanside....you had a great year! But, in the words of the ever longing Chicago Cubs fan....."Wait 'till Next Year!".— December 19, 2008 12:04 p.m.
San Diego football the real winner in state debate
Thanks for your great assessment of the SD High School Football "Great Debate of '08"! Both teams are talented beyond their individual stars (Wynn & Gaffney). With the exception of one blemish on Oceanside's side of the ledger, both handled all of their opponents as expected. It appears it was that "blemish" (OSide's tie to Ramona)which ended up being the deciding factor. Both teams would have represented the San Diego section well. Cathedral got the nod this year. It appears the CIF is determined to add another layer of "playoffs" to the state championship bowl picture in about 2-3 years. That would allow two teams to compete against each other from the "South", and the "North", for the right to play in the Championship Bowl game. Too bad that approach is not already in effect. That would have settled this matter outright. We all wish Cathedral Catholic well in their game tomorrow against St. Mary's of Stockton. Perhaps they'll bring home a second straight state championship to San Diego! How sweet that would be! Go Dons!— December 19, 2008 3:55 a.m.
Sound Off: Final Top 10
This looks just about right! Nice job! I suppose one could make a case for Valhalla......they only lost to Helix, and Cathedral.....and, made it to the Division III Final.— December 18, 2008 10:30 a.m.
Division II State Bowl Preview
Congratulations Cathedral! You certainly deserve this recognition ! We wish you well against St. Mary's next Saturday ! Go Dons!— December 16, 2008 4:41 p.m.
Cathedral Catholic invited to state bowl game
We're all sorry you're having a hard time with Oceanside's early departure from the State playoff picture! But, as they say......"Time heals all wounds". There will always be next year! PS - You misspelled "Nepotism" three times in your rant! PS II - "If Oceanside didn't tie......" just doesn't hold water! THEY DID TIE....and, to a team in a lower Division!— December 16, 2008 4:32 p.m.
Division II: Oceanside vs. Helix
Cathedral.......ONE MAN TEAM? Tell that to Parker Hipp, Cathedral Quarterback. Hipp finished in the Top Ten in most QB stats in the San Diego Section. Nearly 2300 yards passing.....and 23 TD's (as many as highly touted Scripps Ranch QB Tate Forcier!). He had 301 rushing, and another 2 TD's via this route. In the Division III title victory he passed for 207 yards, and 3 TD's ! Cathedral.......Hardly a ONE MAN TEAM ! Congratulations to Oceanside for posting a fine season!— December 16, 2008 4:16 p.m.
Cathedral Catholic invited to state bowl game
Congratulations Cathedral ! The CIF Section Commissioners determined you had the best record....and the toughest schedule.....among Division II Bowl contenders in Southern California. We wish you well against St. Mary's HS of Stockton next Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson. You deserve this recognition....you've earned it ! Also.....congratulations to a fine "Runner Up" Oceanside team. You played well. You too are a great team! Go Dons !!!!!!!!!!— December 14, 2008 5:01 p.m.
