Same thing happened where I grew up east of Los Angeles. The once-plentiful dairies are gone, the land is worth too much anymore. Sad testament to changing times. And without dairies, I reckon there's no need for slaughterhouses.

I would like to thank the City Counsel for saving San Diego from hundreds of needless additional jobs, millions in unnecessary tax revenues, and undeserved low-priced food sources. Thank you, City Counsel of San Diego, for saving the citizens of America's Finest City from something that is obviously not good in this robust economic climate. I agree on all counts. So far as jazz is concerned, I'll take it a step farther and offer that there is more structure to jazz than perhaps any other type of music. Improvisation is often part of what is going on inside of that structure, but even the quickest study of jazz scales reveals that - improvisation aside - the soloist is bound by very complex and often rigid if not limited choices in where they might travel for however many bars they play. A listener with no studies in jazz theory enjoys this for its freedom, while those of us who were formally educated in jazz theory appreciate the form within the structure. I think jazz is a win/win for everyone.
