I've never seen a commercial for Northrop. And if I'm in charge of the advertising budget for Qualcomm, I'm not spending a dime on television commercials or stadium naming rights. I am targeting potential customers in trade journals and similar publications. But that's just me, your mileage may vary. Qualcomm has a large pool of potential employees to choose from. Everyone wants to live in San Diego, try hiring a janitor sometime and watch how many applicants have college degrees. San Diego is Eden, everyone wants a bite of that forbidden fruit.

Paul, Qualcomm no longer offers consumer products. I'm not sure how name recognition is something desirable to them anymore. The corporations that purchase their systems technology are certainly aware of their brand; back in the Jack Murphy Stadium days Qualcomm sold cell phones and other consumer goods, but they have changed direction recently. Visduh's point is an accurate one.

I have to disagree, what I wouldn't do for some really good furious hysteria right about now. I prefer mine lightly sautéed in garlic butter with a generous touch of chipotle-mango to one side for dipping.

Tijuana Pharmacies Can’t Stay in Business
There isn't any tourism where I live, which is far from downtown. And while there aren't nearly the ridiculous number of pharmacies here as there are near the border, there are probably five times as many here as in your average part of suburban U.S. Even here, you can't swing a cat by the tail without hitting a farmacia. No doubt that many gringo tourists or visitors use the drugs they buy here for recreation, but I don't believe that all of those pharmacies sprung up near the border initially for that purpose, so much as it was a Mexican mindset of taking something that worked well in most of Mexico and completely overdoing it in the tourist spots.

Tijuana Pharmacies Can’t Stay in Business
Tourism has been decimated in Baja. It began post 9/11 when the U.S. made getting back across the border a nightmare, and the recent violence has only made things worse. I read that the recent decision not to port in Mazatlan is linked to three incidents in particular and it might be temporary, but who can say? So far as the middle class, it has hurt them and the people they employed. A friend of mine owned three businesses in downtown Tijuana that saw more local business but some tourists. One is a bar, which still thrives, a little store that offers natural herbs and remedies (many Mexicans still use and prefer these methods), and a pharmacy. He closed the pharmacy years ago, when the tourists stopped coming, he wasn't making any money.

Tijuana Pharmacies Can’t Stay in Business
I'm certain that some of the purchases were for "recreational" use, but the vast majority of tourists I've met purchased in Mexico because it cost much less in many instances. It's a pain not being able to walk down the street and get some antibiotics when I get an infection, but the antibiotic restrictions were a long time coming. Mexicans would take antibiotics for anything, even a common cold, they didn't know any better. Some are now immune to common antibiotics.

Jerry Brown Wants to Rein in Redevelopment Scams
"However, we are not construction estimators, so we do not know the actual costs, or if the building would pay for itself by constant use." And then... "Hopefully we could be the Project Engineer or Project Manager for the Cistern part." Not saying that whatever you're advertising is or isn't a bargain, but all the same, it sounds like advertising to me. Camp out on redevelopment projects and propose to piggyback your proposal. Genius. Want the information to AEG in Los Angeles? Because there won't be a new stadium built in San Diego, at least not for a decade or more.

I've never seen a commercial for Northrop. And if I'm in charge of the advertising budget for Qualcomm, I'm not spending a dime on television commercials or stadium naming rights. I am targeting potential customers in trade journals and similar publications. But that's just me, your mileage may vary. Qualcomm has a large pool of potential employees to choose from. Everyone wants to live in San Diego, try hiring a janitor sometime and watch how many applicants have college degrees. Paul, Qualcomm no longer offers consumer products. I'm not sure how name recognition is something desirable to them anymore. The corporations that purchase their systems technology are certainly aware of their brand; back in the Jack Murphy Stadium days Qualcomm sold cell phones and other consumer goods, but they have changed direction recently. Tijuana Pharmacies Can’t Stay in Business
There isn't any tourism where I live, which is far from downtown. And while there aren't nearly the ridiculous number of pharmacies here as there are near the border, there are probably five times as many here as in your average part of suburban U.S. Even here, you can't swing a cat by the tail without hitting a farmacia. No doubt that many gringo tourists or visitors use the drugs they buy here for recreation, but I don't believe that all of those pharmacies sprung up near the border initially for that purpose, so much as it was a Mexican mindset of taking something that worked well in most of Mexico and completely overdoing it in the tourist spots.— January 28, 2011 7:37 p.m.

Tourism has been decimated in Baja. It began post 9/11 when the U.S. made getting back across the border a nightmare, and the recent violence has only made things worse. I read that the recent decision not to port in Mazatlan is linked to three incidents in particular and it might be temporary, but who can say? So far as the middle class, it has hurt them and the people they employed. A friend of mine owned three businesses in downtown Tijuana that saw more local business but some tourists. One is a bar, which still thrives, a little store that offers natural herbs and remedies (many Mexicans still use and prefer these methods), and a pharmacy. He closed the pharmacy years ago, when the tourists stopped coming, he wasn't making any money.— January 27, 2011 9:55 p.m.

I'm certain that some of the purchases were for "recreational" use, but the vast majority of tourists I've met purchased in Mexico because it cost much less in many instances. It's a pain not being able to walk down the street and get some antibiotics when I get an infection, but the antibiotic restrictions were a long time coming. Mexicans would take antibiotics for anything, even a common cold, they didn't know any better. Some are now immune to common antibiotics.— January 27, 2011 3:52 p.m.

"However, we are not construction estimators, so we do not know the actual costs, or if the building would pay for itself by constant use." And then... "Hopefully we could be the Project Engineer or Project Manager for the Cistern part." Not saying that whatever you're advertising is or isn't a bargain, but all the same, it sounds like advertising to me. Camp out on redevelopment projects and propose to piggyback your proposal.
