A2Z I don't think you'll ever find anyone on this website questioning your ethics, you continually do a great service by providing this information, even if people don't comment much on it. What I hope for, presuming that there is some sort of living karma that provides such a pay-off, is that your hard work and efforts culminate in some sort of a victory, in whichever way that you wish for that victory to manifest itself.

That's the tough thing about trying to define ethics. If you always include the law, then you'll find exceptions, but if you always include exceptions, as you brilliantly point out, you run the risk of judging the ethics of a religious zealot's murder of a doctor performing abortions. It's not as easy as we think ;)

Maloni on Voting as Legalized Gambling on Redevelopment Projects
@ #5: It's quite a neat thing to watch, and a great toy to play with when one finds time to do so. There are thousands of sites with lots of advertising and their only function seems to be getting listed in a search, so the sites seem to automatically camp on certain words and phrases and provide a link to the origin of the word or phrase. And oh, yeah, Halliburton. In the old days before they were caught, movie theaters would splice a few frames of a bucket of popcorn or a cup of soda into trailers (or even the film itself) in order to subliminally affect the audience to purchase such items. In modern times, you KNOW this is being accomplished in order to entice a click from someone looking for something in a search engine.

Lots of Harlots
The activity is certainly increasing in areas away from Zona Norte, but it isn't something new. About a block and a half from my house (many, many miles Southeast of Centro), the notorious Siete De Copas bar offers a wide variety of prostitutes from the time it opens until last call, and there is a large hotel right in back of the place to accomodate those "in search of". The difference is, that here and likely everywhere outside of Zona Norte, the girls stay off of the streets and keep to the inside of the bar, only venturing out to take a client to a room or to find a cab home at quitting time. I remind all outsiders that technically prostitution is still not legal in Mexico. It is tolerated, when practiced in accordance with the unofficial guidelines. Be cautious, those "in search of"!

Even in your blog here, if you would like, write a story (any story) and include the word "transexual" in the story a couple of times. Better yet, include the word in the title of the blog entry. Wait perhaps two days. Then, place the first sentence of your story into google and search the internet. Prepare to be dazzled!

I agree totally with your statement A2Z, but does that define ethics? What about those rare times when the right thing to do goes against the Constitution or the Law? Such as, back in the 1800's, harboring an escaped slave. Modern day examples seem less dramatic, but if we were to be speculative, if a priest marries a gay couple in 2009, I have to wonder how that would be seen in, say, 2029 (speculating, of course, that by then gay couples truly have all rights that all couples have)...

Credit for Cheer
The caveat here, in the wake of some school districts deciding to interpret the State Constitution as did the Rose Bird California Supreme Court in the early '80's, is that the school district will likely now have to provide all materials - including uniforms - to cheerleaders. Also, the question of how the cheerleading squad can still exclude anyone wishing to participate, regardless of ability or appearance, is bound to be raised. Careful with that decision, SDUSD!

Yes, nan, I think that's the best way to handle it. Usually, it works out - I've seen such commenters simply give up after a while and find someone else to annoy somewhere else on some other website. I think that the more they are paid attention to, it fuels their need for attention. A little birdie recently told me, "It's nice to see you taking the high road." Maybe taking the high road is the ethical thing to do?

What Does Ethics Mean?/edited again 8/7/2010
A2Z I don't think you'll ever find anyone on this website questioning your ethics, you continually do a great service by providing this information, even if people don't comment much on it. What I hope for, presuming that there is some sort of living karma that provides such a pay-off, is that your hard work and efforts culminate in some sort of a victory, in whichever way that you wish for that victory to manifest itself.— August 5, 2010 4:02 p.m.

That's the tough thing about trying to define ethics. If you always include the law, then you'll find exceptions, but if you always include exceptions, as you brilliantly point out, you run the risk of judging the ethics of a religious zealot's murder of a doctor performing abortions. @ #5: It's quite a neat thing to watch, and a great toy to play with when one finds time to do so. There are thousands of sites with lots of advertising and their only function seems to be getting listed in a search, so the sites seem to automatically camp on certain words and phrases and provide a link to the origin of the word or phrase. And oh, yeah, Halliburton. In the old days before they were caught, movie theaters would splice a few frames of a bucket of popcorn or a cup of soda into trailers (or even the film itself) in order to subliminally affect the audience to purchase such items. In modern times, you KNOW this is being accomplished in order to entice a click from someone looking for something in a search engine.— August 5, 2010 3:45 p.m.
Lots of Harlots
The activity is certainly increasing in areas away from Zona Norte, but it isn't something new. About a block and a half from my house (many, many miles Southeast of Centro), the notorious Siete De Copas bar offers a wide variety of prostitutes from the time it opens until last call, and there is a large hotel right in back of the place to accomodate those "in search of". The difference is, that here and likely everywhere outside of Zona Norte, the girls stay off of the streets and keep to the inside of the bar, only venturing out to take a client to a room or to find a cab home at quitting time. I remind all outsiders that technically prostitution is still not legal in Mexico. It is tolerated, when practiced in accordance with the unofficial guidelines. I agree totally with your statement A2Z, but does that define ethics? What about those rare times when the right thing to do goes against the Constitution or the Law? Such as, back in the 1800's, harboring an escaped slave. Modern day examples seem less dramatic, but if we were to be speculative, if a priest marries a gay couple in 2009, I have to wonder how that would be seen in, say, 2029 (speculating, of course, that by then gay couples truly have all rights that all couples have)...— August 5, 2010 2:32 p.m.
Credit for Cheer
The caveat here, in the wake of some school districts deciding to interpret the State Constitution as did the Rose Bird California Supreme Court in the early '80's, is that the school district will likely now have to provide all materials - including uniforms - to cheerleaders. Also, the question of how the cheerleading squad can still exclude anyone wishing to participate, regardless of ability or appearance, is bound to be raised. Yes, nan, I think that's the best way to handle it. Usually, it works out - I've seen such commenters simply give up after a while and find someone else to annoy somewhere else on some other website. I think that the more they are paid attention to, it fuels their need for attention. A little birdie recently told me, "It's nice to see you taking the high road."
