Pesky Piercings and Other family Issues
Oh these zany kids. We were just as silly back then. I thought nothing of going to school blazing on the latest strain of weed to hit the streets. Somehow, it failed to make trig any more interesting. I was in a few rock bands, grew my hair long, got a big hoop ear ring. We grew out of it, and so do the kids. I don't have any tattoos, not because I'm afraid of needles or ink, simply because I found other ways to spend my money. Piercings eventually close, hair can be cut and dyed any sensible color, and even tattoos can be removed. If you can keep 'em from getting pregnant before they decide it's time to have a family, then I think you're ahead of the game.

Powis Castle
I never got Tabasco Cat at good odds after that. I bet him anyway in the Preakness and the Belmont and had the exactas and I still didn't feel like I got any value out of him. Obviously, he died a happy horse ;) It's funny that whenever I think about that race it always goes back to the improbable Powis Castle, six degrees of Powis Castle. There was a ton more I could've thrown in here, but then it starts to get all bogged down and there's just too many characters to keep track of. With Go For Gin, even though he's still at stud, I have a feeling he'll be turned out soon, most stallions stop being useful that way when they're around twenty and he's almost there. But you'll be noticing him in breeding lines for years to come, he was prolific as a sire. Speaking of horses having heart attacks, Irish bred Tuscan Evening apparently died from one after a six furlong work at Del Mar Sunday morning. She was unbeaten in six starts this year. Sad news.

One that could be filed under, "How to make an excellent film without even trying." John Hughes wrote young and died young, and while the levity of Ferris Bueller's Day Off is present throughout, there is a conceit in how the characters around Bueller seem to find themselves through him. Hughes wrote the script in less than a week, mainly due to fear of a strike by the writer's guild. Much of the dialog, including scenes with Ben Stein, were ad lib or otherwise invented on the spot, playing to the strength of the actors' abilities to project themselves through the characters. The casting is mostly stronger than the script, and the gratuitous Chicago scenery gets tired quickly, but the film is playful enough throughout to allow the viewer to forgive what seems to be Hughes' ode to the Windy City. Aside from Broderick, Sara, Ruck, and Jones, Jennifer Gray steals many scenes as Ferris' sister, frustrated with her brother's ability to get away with being a slacker, and Charlie Sheen has a small role in a memorable scene with Gray. Ben Stein and Edie McClurg are perfect in bit roles of an economics teacher and a school secretary.

National Economic Outlook Weakens on Bad Employment Numbers
"Start putting a 100% tariff on all goods imported into the US." That computer you're typing away on would cost $5,000 dollars. Your car? $50,000. You can't simply tariff like that, SP. Imports are very important to the U.S. manufacturing base because the components are an important aspect to what the U.S. manufactures as an end product. Everything depends on everything else.

The American Christian Theocracy of the Majority
Both pocket change and folding money contain the phrase, "In God We Trust". The U.S. was founded by people who, in part, arrived at the New World to escape persecution based on their religious beliefs. It is very interesting, however, to note many of Jefferson's writings - mainly in his correspondence - where he was deliberate in insisting that any religious belief play no part in politics. But even through those letters one gets a sense that Jefferson had absolutely no issues with politicians endorsing their religions. As though a natural occurrence, perhaps religion (or non-religion) should shape our morality, we seem to act according to whatever ties we maintain with whatever religious beliefs we carry with us. The only important thing, then, would be to realize this, and rather than to deny it perhaps we should acknowledge it in order to avoid inadvertently allowing it to affect our judgment in a blind manner.

How can someone make a "typo" when the French is accurate even though the Latin is flawed? Would unfounded acceptance of a typo in order to garner sympathy be considered unethical? More to the point, what's the point? Is someone butthurt over not getting over? This thread has taken a curious turn toward some road that is leading to nowhere.

"I was also appalled, a few years ago, when a gringa suburban mom was dragged away from her family on line to the border crossing by two Tijuana cops who raped her, after stealing her husband's money and credit cards and using his ATM card to ravage the family bank account." = = = = = = = = = = = = = I wasn't aware that you knew them! That would make for an excellent Reader story, I hope that you can break rank and tell it from their point of view.

Pesky Piercings and Other family Issues
Oh these zany kids. We were just as silly back then. I thought nothing of going to school blazing on the latest strain of weed to hit the streets. Somehow, it failed to make trig any more interesting. I was in a few rock bands, grew my hair long, got a big hoop ear ring. We grew out of it, and so do the kids. I don't have any tattoos, not because I'm afraid of needles or ink, simply because I found other ways to spend my money. Piercings eventually close, hair can be cut and dyed any sensible color, and even tattoos can be removed. If you can keep 'em from getting pregnant before they decide it's time to have a family, then I think you're ahead of the game.— August 9, 2010 12:57 a.m.

I never got Tabasco Cat at good odds after that. I bet him anyway in the Preakness and the Belmont and had the exactas and I still didn't feel like I got any value out of him. Obviously, he died a happy horse ;) It's funny that whenever I think about that race it always goes back to the improbable Powis Castle, six degrees of Powis Castle. There was a ton more I could've thrown in here, but then it starts to get all bogged down and there's just too many characters to keep track of. With Go For Gin, even though he's still at stud, I have a feeling he'll be turned out soon, most stallions stop being useful that way when they're around twenty and he's almost there. But you'll be noticing him in breeding lines for years to come, he was prolific as a sire. Speaking of horses having heart attacks, Irish bred Tuscan Evening apparently died from one after a six furlong work at Del Mar Sunday morning. She was unbeaten in six starts this year. One that could be filed under, "How to make an excellent film without even trying." John Hughes wrote young and died young, and while the levity of Ferris Bueller's Day Off is present throughout, there is a conceit in how the characters around Bueller seem to find themselves through him. Hughes wrote the script in less than a week, mainly due to fear of a strike by the writer's guild. Much of the dialog, including scenes with Ben Stein, were ad lib or otherwise invented on the spot, playing to the strength of the actors' abilities to project themselves through the characters. The casting is mostly stronger than the script, and the gratuitous Chicago scenery gets tired quickly, but the film is playful enough throughout to allow the viewer to forgive what seems to be Hughes' ode to the Windy City. Aside from Broderick, Sara, Ruck, and Jones, Jennifer Gray steals many scenes as Ferris' sister, frustrated with her brother's ability to get away with being a slacker, and Charlie Sheen has a small role in a memorable scene with Gray. Ben Stein and Edie McClurg are perfect in bit roles of an economics teacher and a school secretary.— August 8, 2010 4:38 p.m.

"Start putting a 100% tariff on all goods imported into the US." That computer you're typing away on would cost $5,000 dollars. Your car? $50,000. You can't simply tariff like that, SP. Imports are very important to the U.S. manufacturing base because the components are an important aspect to what the U.S. manufactures as an end product. Both pocket change and folding money contain the phrase, "In God We Trust". The U.S. was founded by people who, in part, arrived at the New World to escape persecution based on their religious beliefs. It is very interesting, however, to note many of Jefferson's writings - mainly in his correspondence - where he was deliberate in insisting that any religious belief play no part in politics. But even through those letters one gets a sense that Jefferson had absolutely no issues with politicians endorsing their religions. As though a natural occurrence, perhaps religion (or non-religion) should shape our morality, we seem to act according to whatever ties we maintain with whatever religious beliefs we carry with us. The only important thing, then, would be to realize this, and rather than to deny it perhaps we should acknowledge it in order to avoid inadvertently allowing it to affect our judgment in a blind manner.— August 7, 2010 1:40 p.m.

How can someone make a "typo" when the French is accurate even though the Latin is flawed? Would unfounded acceptance of a typo in order to garner sympathy be considered unethical? More to the point, what's the point? Is someone butthurt over not getting over? This thread has taken a curious turn toward some road that is leading to nowhere.— August 7, 2010 4:47 a.m.
