Permit an insolvent city to subsidize a Charger stadium?
Founder, I do agree with you. I'll offer this suggestion here. Whoever is in charge of promoting the Reader on Twitter and Facebook, it's possible that they are stretched too thin. Someone really needs to push the online version of the Reader on these social networking sites. Some entries are made, but more can be done. Hand that Twitter and Facebook account over to a few different people and assign them different sections of the online version of the Reader to promote! Maybe one person gets City Lights, another gets Barb/Brizz/Etc. and another gets Naomi/Bedford, and so on. People respond to these links. Even when I blog in here, if I link it to Facebook, I'm sure the Reader gets hits from it. And encourage the writers to respond to comments. People come back for that, they love the interaction. Barb responds, Don always responds. I know this takes a huge chunk of time out of the day, but in the long run, it's worth it, not only in added revenue, but in garnering a great following for the publication and the various writers. /mytwocents

WARNING…
There is quite a history behind that plant. Native American Indians used it in a lot of ceremonies. And, it can acutally be quite deadly. Hope the kids involved come out okay, and I had no idea that they were seeking out this flower, not a good idea.

Flicker of Recognition
Actually, some of the blogs are quite outstanding. I recommend a couple of Baja blogs, noteably, Rangel's stuff. It's about as honest and real as you'll get. For San Diego, you sort of get a mixture of stuff, Bohemian Opus is a wonderful writer, SDaniels in Banker's Hill is fantastic, although she simply needs to WRITE MORE!, MsGrant has some very entertaining entries. A wonderful lady, a poetess and all-around great person would be nan, and really, I could go on and on. So far as Burroughs, you'll be entertained, but I have issues with authors who simply write in order to challenge being banned by censors. That was the idea behind Naked Lunch, in a nut shell. You like the raw and writing straight from the gutter, read as much Bukowski as you can get your hands on. You get some of his stuff for a dime, jump on it. You won't be disappointed.

Flicker of Recognition
"My first visit to North Park's location scored me William Burroughs' 'Naked Lunch' on sale for a ten cents." You over-paid, Courtneybeth. No one wants to sum you up, most San Diegans couldn't care less. North Park defies any intelligent attempt at definition, no need to try. Excuse Burwell, you will find him to be a very smart person, and at times quite enlightening, but his bedside manner is a little off. This is what happens.

New Aviation Rules
It is a small world. The last place I worked, the owner referred once to a "friend" of his, by first name. Later I found out that friend's last name. The last job I had in L.A. before I moved to Tijuana eighteen years ago, that "friend" was one of the two owners of the place. He was a jerk, and we hated each other. So, that "friend" and the owner of the place in San Diego were once working for the same large corporation. To my knowledge, the San Diego employer never knew I worked for the "friend". My direct boss was the V.P., and after I left that place, she might have told him, who knows. In my second novel, this "friend" is fictionalized, but believe me, I didn't have to do much other than to change the name in order to portray him. Last I heard, the guy was in bad shape, health-wise. While I don't wish for anyone's death, his would certainly make me breathe easier if it happened by the time I get around to seeking a publisher. One less thing to worry about. One example of how he was a jerk? I gave three weeks notice, and after three days he decided to fire me. Of course, I could've sued the bastard and won easily, but by that time I just wanted to get the hell out of L.A., and I already had another job lined up in San Diego.

New Aviation Rules
When I was much younger and live in Los Angeles, I did that a couple of times. It was easy up there, I would wind up with another job within a day or two. Since then, I've taken to not burning my bridges. And, I haven't had a job in a while that pissed me off enough to do it. Well, except for one place, but that was temp. work anyway, so it didn't really matter.

Blade Runner
Wow, I haven't seen this film since it came out in the cinema. Jay, I like your observations quite a bit, at least from what I can remember of this film. I was left wondering why it rained in future Los Angeles so constantly. But I think you're right, when you're free to speculate it can add quite a lot to the cinematography. I need to see this again, I would likely find even more appreciation for it now than I did then.

Found this article amusing, apparently a lot of people dream about doing what that guy did:

Crystal meth came into the house on Oceanside's East Parker Street
@ #6: How am I supposed to know what you meant? Knox and Knott are pretty far apart. I'm very happy that you enjoy Ms. Knott, very happy about you're unwavering support of her work, but somewhat curious why you would attack anyone with a viewpoint different than your own. Some people are going to be critical of writers and stories; otherwise, what's the point of the feedback? Monoghan actually seems disappointed because Monoghan seems to otherwise enjoy other stories by this author. That actually seems to support your position regarding Ms. Knott's abilities. Myself, I don't normally get into crime stories, so I wouldn't have recognized the name of the author (and obviously didn't, since I had no idea why you referred to a Knox). My criticisms concerning the story are not based on the reputation of the auther, who I do not know. Simply put, I missed the actual cause of death in the story (autopsy), which would have helped me to root for or against some of the characters, and the D.A.'s cross examination of the antagonist left me wondering why he didn't invite the antagonist to futher incriminate himself on the witness stand. As to your last question, yes, I have, but that doesn't qualify my opinion any more than it qualifies the opinion of anyone else. I've had some excellent editors rip me a new one, and some excellent editors give me praise. Readers do the same thing. They've done it to my stuff in the past and they'll do it again. I have to pay close attention to the criticisms; I do not believe that they are meant personally, and as such, mine are not meant personally in this case.

/mytwocents— August 15, 2010 9:13 a.m.
WARNING…
There is quite a history behind that plant. Native American Indians used it in a lot of ceremonies. And, it can acutally be quite deadly. Hope the kids involved come out okay, and I had no idea that they were seeking out this flower, not a good idea.— August 15, 2010 8:30 a.m.
You won't be disappointed.— August 14, 2010 11:05 p.m.
This is what happens.— August 14, 2010 10:27 p.m.
Of course, I could've sued the bastard and won easily, but by that time I just wanted to get the hell out of L.A., and I already had another job lined up in San Diego.— August 14, 2010 9:11 p.m.

When I was much younger and live in Los Angeles, I did that a couple of times. It was easy up there, I would wind up with another job within a day or two. Since then, I've taken to not burning my bridges. And, I haven't had a job in a while that pissed me off enough to do it. Well, except for one place, but that was temp. work anyway, so it didn't really matter.— August 14, 2010 8:42 p.m.
I need to see this again, I would likely find even more appreciation for it now than I did then.— August 14, 2010 5:56 p.m.

I have to pay close attention to the criticisms; I do not believe that they are meant personally, and as such, mine are not meant personally in this case.— August 14, 2010 4:15 p.m.
