Issa’s house of cards and freebies
Not a business trip, Mr. Bob Hudson. It's a junket. There may be some "business" done, but it's definitely not The People's Business. And everyone knows it's all about the getaway; he went with his wife. It's not about the panels. And as usual, the taxpayers may not pay now, but they pay later. Way more than the amount declared.— July 1, 2014 5:57 p.m.
In Memphis, Faulconer hails GOP machine’s victory
I don't know if there is a pattern of local mayors attending partisan events on city time or at city expense. I sure hope not. Will be interested in seeing who paid for what for this event.— June 30, 2014 4:22 p.m.
Faulconer’s wife: master of cops and conventions
Did the geeky guy touch you? Sounded as though he made contact with your camera. That would be an assault, I believe. They certainly do seem to be trying to please the Mayor's wife, keeping the outsiders out. What about all the non-uniformed guys in suits, with earpieces, etc. Who are they? I wonder if Mr. Quiet ("Is it ok to film?") is keeping a low profile, perhaps because he is a moonlighting police officer?— June 26, 2014 7:38 p.m.
Scandal-raising questions at U-T San Diego
I had forgotten about their "World's Greatest Country" banner. Wow, what a crazy place that paper is!— June 5, 2014 4:27 p.m.
Scandal-raising questions at U-T San Diego
That caveat at end of endorsement was bizarre! And they endorsed Horton for her "character." Pretty funny. Thanks for this piece. This town needs a little political stirring up. Great writing.— June 5, 2014 4:26 p.m.
Barrio hit piece silent on maquiladora job loss
Best piece I've seen on this deceitful anti-community campaign by NASSCO et al. Explains well at least one (surprising!) part of the company's agenda. All the lies and misrepresentations must surely simply be depressing the turn-out. People are confused. No doubt the goal of the Proposition supporters. But this story brings one big secret into the light of day.— May 31, 2014 10:34 p.m.
Government gushes tax dollars at bayside bash
Geez, you would that with all the federal employees they have here, there, and everywhere, ONE of them could have planned a simple conference. Glad to see that there is, in fact, supposed to be an attempt to utilize existing federal facilities, though I wonder if it happens very often. Probably the views aren't as good as the Sheraton's view of the pool and bay.— May 20, 2014 9:36 p.m.
Questionable political fundraising? Roger on that
"I am supporting Carl," Hedgecock answers, when a Demaio opponent asks for a meeting. That says it all. Outrageous. And knowing the Kimmel politics (Koch et al.) explains a lot about Channel 8 and Roger both.— April 24, 2014 2:12 p.m.
Dumanis set to open TV ad war
An attorney, contributing to a District Attorney's re-election campaign to "bring to her attention the improper usage" of a California Consumer Legal Remedies Act? Now that's a good one! Like used car dealers would have the consumers' best interest in mind. I don't think so. And thanks for giving me my chuckle of the day.— March 24, 2014 7:08 p.m.
San Diego Navy privatization costly, audit says
Weren't there articles crowing over the fact that this had come in on time and under budget? Guess it's never that simple. Didn't know at the time it was a pilot project. Not being a privatization fan, I'm glad there was an audit. (So, higher-ups get a higher housing allowance? That doesn't make much sense to me. Housing in San Diego is expensive and everyone being in the same market, they should get the same allowance per capita.) Anyway, interesting report.— March 20, 2014 10:28 p.m.
