Re inewsource.org funding link, above: so you can be an inewsource "member" with a contribution in "any amount"? Looking at the list I would say that might not cover too much of your budget. Obviously people want to know the main (large) sources of funding and the amounts. That would be a true disclosure. — September 22, 2014 7:05 p.m.
Manchester's immodest Burnham buildup
Industrialist, Manchester says? Not quite. Real estate developer, more accurately. And "donated the land" for the convention center, his PR people say? I'm thinking "the land" always belonged to the Port. Amazing what people will claim when they're not challenged.— September 29, 2014 8:02 p.m.
LaRue’s big day
Congressional staffer ... departing D. C.... for events in his home state of Pennsylvania... with dreams of running for office. Why did this take me back to the early episodes of House of Cards?— September 24, 2014 7:52 p.m.
Who will rule Mayor Faulconer?

Diversity guru still sought by UCSD
I like the suggestion of Heidi up above. She is absolutely right. Good creative solution. Key being that they listen to the students. The new hire probably doesn't have any real power, anyway, though fixing a few things on that campus seems to be needed.— September 19, 2014 12:44 p.m.
A congresswoman’s wartime vacation
This is truly sad. Not surprising but very disappointing, again. The cost alone. It should have been donated to the families of children who died in Gaza. Junketeering while children are dying. How about going back to Washington and figuring out some ways to end the war? And by the way, with all the money we spend on intelligence, state department, staff members and the like, you would THINK our members of Congress would not have to get their briefings about Iran from Israeli officials! (included was "an insider briefing on Iran from an Israeli reserve major general"?). My god, no wonder we're in trouble. I don't begrudge fact-finding trips for elected officials, but I do reject special interest funding; if it's something important, pay for it with government funds. Why muddy the waters? But any time they take their spouse or significant other, it's a vacation, and a rip-off, and should not be allowed. Either it's work or it's play, and clearly Ms. Davis and her husband, Dr. Davis, like to play. Even when there's a war going on. Outrageous.— September 15, 2014 10:23 p.m.
Romney's La Jolla teardown not priceless
So the consultants have to charge at least twice what they're worth (!) .... so they can turn around and launder the other half of the fee back to the elected officials in charge. Such an interesting system we have. In the meantime, lots of prime buildings are getting destroyed fast. The Romney house story is a model case.— September 2, 2014 2:04 p.m.
Green and Made in the U.S.A.
Instead of "Made in the U. S. A." shouldn't those clothing tags have said, "Made in a U. S. A. Prison"? Really, had no idea a business could use prisoners in this way.— July 29, 2014 10:22 p.m.
Fountain of traffic
There better not be a daytime closing of that park any time soon. If there is, there will be a lot of angry children (and their parents). That place is very popular, and ought to be closed to private, corporate gatherings, regardless of time of day.— July 16, 2014 3:01 p.m.
Dinosaur Democrat
Interesting about Alex Roth's pieces being "favored re-posts" by the Free Republic etc. I did not know that. Perhaps there is more to that story, also. I do remember that Alex Roth, when at the U-T, seemed kind of like an instigator/troublemaker from time to time.— July 9, 2014 8:10 p.m.
Dinosaur Democrat
What further proof do we need that politics makes strange bedfellows. Quite the Heinz 57 Variety of supporters.— July 9, 2014 2 p.m.
