More layoffs at Union-Tribune
I couldn't agree more, particularly because the Pulitzers are really just a competition between among five big papers, with a couple token prizes thrown to the littler guys. In general, the only prize worth working toward is a phone call from a nice reader telling you that they appreciated and enjoyed your story. Everything else is ego.— May 29, 2013 11:52 p.m.

I hope his bosses at Forever 21 aren't reading about his love of Urban Outfitters. They're so not mainstream...— May 29, 2013 9:59 p.m.

More layoffs at Union-Tribune
Several page designer/copy editors, I'm hearing from a couple fellow former employees. It's more like counting who's left than who was let go.— May 29, 2013 3:16 p.m.
Doug Manchester’s Grand Del Mar resort scoffs at permits
It took the writer 11 minutes to blame the editor while pretending to be joking. It usually takes less...— May 6, 2013 12:21 p.m.
Pizzeria Luigi
I carry cash because credit and debit cards are crawling with fees and because it's easier to track my spending when I count out cash myself rather than just irresponsibly throwing everything on plastic and assuming it will be taken care of. As for Luigi's, their typical sale is probably less than 10 bucks, and businesses sometimes lose money running credit and debit on such small items. Also, they probably don't want to serve a customer and see their card declined, or they don't want people who use plastic for five-dollar purchases because that's kind of a sign of douchebaggery.— May 6, 2013 12:13 p.m.
neighborhoods/golden-hill -- Golden Hill
Probably along F Street. Same's happening on G and was happening on the bridges over the 5. I guess they finally got kicked out of Mission Bay.— May 6, 2013 12:07 p.m.
neighborhoods/sherman-heights -- Sherman Heights
So, has anyone else had any recent run-ins with the Cat Lady? You guys probably know her... She walks around Sherman in the middle of the night dumping cat food for the ferals. It's become a real problem down here on 19th Street (where she lives) because we have a few properties that have been vacant and she's enabling the cats to turn them into their estate. Fleas abound, feces collect. But she's been doing this for years. Anyway, a couple neighbors and I tried reasoning with her, no dice. Recently I called police non-emergency and the responding officer couldn't do much, though he could tell she's NUTS. He gave me an incident number. If any of you guys have any trouble with her, let me know... As for those properties, some other neighbors and I got in touch with the city and the owner appears to be cleaning them up. So watch out for newly displaced feral cats. That said, feral cats are still better than feral cat ladies (or feral hippies squatting at 21st and G, for that matter).— April 25, 2013 2:44 p.m.
