Canadian Doctor Charged with Smuggling Treated Athlete in San Diego
lifesbeengood, You should take a look at the article I linked. The Chargers were the first football team to hire a strength coach to coach weightlifting, and the guy they hired was one of the coaches from the 1960 US Olympic weightlifting team. In his first address to the players, he told them about the wonders of Dianobol, which the US team learned about in international competition from the Russians several years before the 1960 olympics, and the US team had a full program in place for those olympics.— May 20, 2010 8:43 a.m.
Canadian Doctor Charged with Smuggling Treated Athlete in San Diego
The funny thing about the jokes referring to "Athlete H" being Hadl, is that he was supposed to be one of the very few Chargers that were NOT on steroids when he played in the early to mid 1960's. It was before my time and I wasn't aware until I saw this story, but the Chargers actually pioneered steroid use in football and steroids were directly responsible for their success during the 60's http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=…— May 19, 2010 10:41 p.m.

refriedgringo, You don't have to be coy. They have already named the athelete that was treated in San Diego. He is "Athlete H"— May 19, 2010 4:44 p.m.
San Diego’s newest corporate darling, Bridgepoint Education
While we are on the subject of Bridgepoint and talking about the likes of National, there is another interesting trend occurring that I am not sure yet whether is a good or bad thing (or indifferent): http://www.goou.ou.edu/NorthAmerica/sandiego.html— May 18, 2010 11:10 a.m.

Don said: "Response to post #56: There is no question that some don't attend UC classes. I remember when a Chargers star -- I believe his name was Chuck Muncie -- boasted that he had gone to Cal-Berkeley and never once attended class." I met a parent a couple years ago at a kids birthday party who had been a safety at Oregon (Not Berkeley, but a pretty good school). He knew he wasn't going to the pros, and used his scholarship to get an education. He said his coaches and "advisers" were always on him to take easier classes, but he knew better. At the start of each term the players were given a single stack of books covering all their classes, bound in string so that you had to cut them loose. At the end of the term players had to return the books to the athletic department (they didn't get to keep them). He said he was always amazed at how many stacks came back still tied up in that original string.— May 18, 2010 11:04 a.m.

Grasca said: "Both enjoy American grown bananas brought to them by servants" Thank God they are American grown, and not some Marxist bananas. I wonder if his patriotic All-American bananas were grown in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Samoa or Guam? Maybe even from a little farm in Guantanamo?— May 14, 2010 12:55 p.m.

Grasca, The big banana nursery was in La Conchita (between Ventura and Santa Barabara). I used to stop there for samples and to buy a tree or two. The nursery closed about ten years ago, and then La Conchita was almost completely wiped off the map by mudslides. Many bananas grow well enough in San Diego. I tried last year, but the bananas got so heavy that before they were ripe the tree blew over. Don, the key to Santa Barbara real estate is to make sure you bought it at least forty-five years ago. It is wonderful to visit my parents, but the house I grew up in is now way out of my price range.— May 14, 2010 11:14 a.m.

Don't forget that Bersin's wife is not just a lawyer, but a Superior Court judge. The US Attorney specially charged with "coordinating law enforcement on the border between the U.S. and Mexico" up until 1998 (according to wiki) and now nominated be the border Czar, combined with a Superior Court judge don't understand I-9 reporting requirements. Yeah, nothing fishy there.— May 14, 2010 10:09 a.m.

Grasca said: "The SD Reader will spare no expense - hot fudge and real whipped cream, hold the bananas." No bananas? What is wrong with you? (sigh, ... deep breath) I guess we can agree to disagree.... accept it is people with anti-American views like you that are ruining this country! (completely kidding, of course, except for the part about the bananas, anti-American views and the country being ruined). ;)— May 14, 2010 10 a.m.
