Can Feds thwart runaway exec pay?
Don wasn't Joe Kennedy in the liquor business with FDR's son James at one time? I think James also worked in FDR's administration at one time be he had to quit. There was some accusation of using his government position to direct business to his own company, if I remember. Birds of a feather??— November 11, 2009 11:31 p.m.
Carnival Masks and Where to Eat & Stay in Venice, Italy
I don't know about being the best pizza in Venice, but I like Ae Oche Pizzerie. Good pizzas, good beer and a friendly place. Lots of locals and tourists alike. And they have great pizza bianca.Right off the canal, easy to find. If that's too far, try Dagwoods on Main street, a couple blocks from the beach. Good NY style pizza.— November 11, 2009 9:24 a.m.
The Anti-Sonic Burger
re #87 Since both are owned by yum brands, it could be still open as a dual menu place, but I don't remember seeinf an A&W sign.— November 10, 2009 6:41 p.m.
The Anti-Sonic Burger
If that's the location that was about 3 blocks south of Las Casuelas, I believe it's now became a KFC.— November 10, 2009 6:32 p.m.
A Fear of Cold and Dark
goatttfish, It's so nice that you can actually climb 96 feet above the 29,035ft peak of Mt. Everest. You truly ARE a SPECIAL individual. As Harry said, "you're a legend in your own mind".— November 10, 2009 12:19 p.m.
Marketing Geniuses
ponzi, dude, you do realize that there are chips and tortillas that are actually made from blue corn and red corn, don't you??— November 7, 2009 3:02 p.m.
SDGE Lobbyist Said to be Innocent, Reinstated
response to # 119 not to stick up for surfpuppy but........ "As part of the plea agreement, the City Attorney's Office filed an amended complaint charging Graham with one count of failing to report economic interests that the city's conflict-of-interest code required she disclose. That replaced the previous complaint charging Graham with five counts." And........ "A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated like a conviction." It was conflict of interest and even though she may not have said the word GUILTY at her sentencing, she has a conviction on her record. That could have been 6 months in the pokey. I don't know about you, but for me 6 months would not have been minor.— November 5, 2009 10:17 a.m.
Video Gamers' Health, Miranda Rights, Car Radio Distraction
Actually, surfpuppy, Miranda wasn't paroled until 1972 after serving about 1/3 of his original sentence. Over the next couple of yrs he was arrested several times. One of those arrests was for the possession of a gun. The charges were dropped, but because this violated his parole he was sent back to Arizona State Prison for another year. After being released he was killed in a bar fight, but it wasn't until 1976. It's always been interesting to me that both William Rehnquist and Sandra Day O'Conner were practicing law in Phoenix at the time and were both were on the bench when SCOTUS reviewed Dickerson v. U.S., which dealt with 18 U. S. C. §3501 which allowed a confession to be admitted into evidence if it is found to be voluntary, even if the defendant was not given the Miranda warning. The Court held “that Miranda, being a constitutional decision of this Court, may not be in effect overruled by an Act of Congress.”— November 3, 2009 10:50 a.m.
Who Killed Richard Swink?
("and yes, this thread has so completely deviated from its origin that following the twists and turns would require a heavy doses of hallucinogens followed up with severe sleep deprivation)" Uh, isn't that normal for everyone here, or is it just me?!?!?!?!— October 31, 2009 12:49 p.m.
Who Killed Richard Swink?
Apparently not all czech women are fit: A study of cancer among overweight people in Europe showed the proportion of new cases of the disease caused by people being fat was highest in women and in central European countries like the Czech Republic, Latvia, Slovenia and Bulgaria. http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE… http://www.iotf.org/oonet/czech2.htm#tab1 Apparently, they can get nasty, too: http://www.vaeter-aktuell.de/english/domestic_vio… Then there's this little goodie: http://www.thefamilygp.com/women-and-orgasm.htm— October 30, 2009 11:20 p.m.
