Update — San Diego Unified sues College Board
High-dudgeon Board of Education member Kevin Bieser and silent Superintendent Cindy Marten have no business suing anybody (with taxpayers' money) over the recent shoddy administration of the Advanced Placement Test at Scripps Ranch High School. Formal written rules accompany these exams. Schools, as well as students, are expected to follow them to the letter. The administration at Scripps Ranch High and the proctor(s) (most likely Scripps Ranch staff) were responsible for the foul-up. And their masters at 4100 Normal Street ought to pick up monetary damages due students and their families for any required re-dos.— July 10, 2017 8:52 p.m.
Summer Stephan's fake NYT news experience
True, and her boss is terminally political, but on the minus side, Erin seems overly attached to her father for a woman of her age and accomplishment. (Good that you put her name in quotes to remind us she is not real.)— July 1, 2017 10:31 a.m.
Summer Stephan's fake NYT news experience
Well, isn't this a confusing development? Could such a puff-piece have been orchestrated by the same anonymous public relations outfit which often "places" stories about politically-favored San Diegans in the New York Times or Wall Street Journal? That's happened in the past -- the old days when School Supe Alan Bersin was angling for national attention and later when Marine reservist Nathan Fletcher Gonzalez was running for Mayor. Feels similar. Dwbat is correct in deconstructing who's what on commercial TV, but all I can say is I love "Blue Bloods" and Summer Stephan is no Erin Reagan.— June 30, 2017 9:41 p.m.
Civic San Diego employee says agency is ripe for corruption
It's amazing that "Civic San Diego" continues in the face of internal whistle-blowing, lawsuits, negative court-rulings and very negative press. How much longer will this be allowed? And exactly what IS "a publicly-owned private nonprofit?" That sounds like gibberish to me, acceptable only in America's Finest City.— June 29, 2017 2:05 p.m.
UCSD’s big bang-bang theory
"Another advance of the surveillance state" indeed. What other high-tech baloney are they pushing up at UCSD? I'd like to send a query to the "incident-review center" of ShotSpotter asking how much money this lily-gilding system is going to cost taxpayers. It sounds like SpotShotter specialists will be on-call 24/7 (like guys in underground missile silos) if they are to analyze any "shots fired" before sending information back to UCSD police "in a matter of seconds." It also sounds like a set-up that will delay police response in the event of an emergency. Brilliant.— June 28, 2017 11:12 p.m.
Von Metzke "groomed" underaged girls by texting
What a story and such an important point. There must be explicit professional training in the interpersonal responsibilities of adult drama teachers to young drama students. Youth theater experiences cannot be islands unto themselves -- they are by definition creative, warm, emotional environments involving impressionable young performers who work long hours with instructors beyond parental oversight. Rules help everyone know what's appropriate. Now I'm wondering if there is such training at other local junior theater organizations.— June 26, 2017 5:29 p.m.
SDSU’s very own bulldozer city?
I'm with beernsports 100%. And I'm with Visduh vis a vis San Diego State having no claim to more land in Mission Valley. Let's do as Rich Gibson recommends and get another CSU campus in South Bay to deal with overcrowding at SDSU. And let's get this qualified measure before the voters for a decision in the fall of 2017 so that any chance for a major league soccer franchise in San Diego is maximized.— June 21, 2017 10:59 p.m.
SDSU’s very own bulldozer city?
I can't wait to see who SDSU picks to guide it into the thicket of "public-priavte deal structuring" concerning real estate. Buddies and bros of SDSU, the prime incubator of our local political leadership, will be lining up at the new defining entry gate. (Wasn't that gate a Jack McGrory idea too?)— June 20, 2017 10:28 p.m.
Does mayor's big money game verge on a crime?
Now you're talking.— June 12, 2017 6:50 p.m.
Does mayor's big money game verge on a crime?
Also, when you get greenspace over there in the "valuable acreage" that is Mission Valley instead of the Stones'muti-faceted plan that includes a river walk along with housing, commercial development and a soccer stadium, let me know.— June 12, 2017 6:21 p.m.
