Big baby looks over Tecate border wall
It's Banksy, not "Bansky."— September 11, 2017 2:20 p.m.
Breaking Bad: Clairemont edition
Do-nothing Councilmember Zapf is up for re-election from redistricted Council District 2. But as I noted above, Clairemont now is the responsibility of Democratic Council representative CHRIS CATE whose office phone is (619) 236-6616. Give him a call.— September 10, 2017 10:39 a.m.
Breaking Bad: Clairemont edition
PLEASE NOTE this crime-plagued part of Clairemont is District 6 and the responsibility of Democratic COUNCILMAN CHRIS CATE. Redistricting changed the boundaries a few years ago. Call his office (619)236-6616. Leave your message for Mayor Sunny at (619) 236-6330.— September 10, 2017 10:34 a.m.
Breaking Bad: Clairemont edition
Why apologize or equivocate about not being a"drug-war cheerleader?" What you describe sounds like a disaster for any neighborhood -- scary, dangerous, filthy, just plain bad for ordinary civilized existence. Homeless addicts, cruising dealers, casing houses, cooking meth, literal and figurative crap left behind? It IS your business -- and all of ours. People should send this story to "Mayor Sunny" Kevin Faulconer, do-nothing Councilmember Lori Zapf and Police Chief "Smiley" Shelley Zimmerman. Keep up the drumbeat.— September 9, 2017 6:56 p.m.
Breaking Bad: Clairemont edition
This was an incredible story. Isn't this Councilwoman Lori Zapf's district? Where are Mayor Faulconer and SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman? Julie Stalmer is becoming the voice of the people when it comes to public harrassment (and worse) by the criminal homeless. If every Reader reader would forward this to Zapf, Faulconer and Zimmerman, maybe they would start protecting the beleaguered residents of Clairemont.— September 6, 2017 7:40 p.m.
Remembering Jerry Lewis
I hated Jerry Lewis but I understand why smart-alecks like Scott Marks appreciated him. This is a wonderful reminiscence of Lewis and a window into the soul of Professor Marks. I'm glad Lewis could be responsive and positive toward young cinephiles; I'm glad Scottie didn't pinch those discarded white socks; I'm touched that Marks wanted Lewis restored to that awful telethon and says,"Sadly, we'll have to walk alone." Thanks for a perfect piece.— September 6, 2017 4:44 p.m.
Two nine-story buildings for Little Italy
It will be a miracle if there's a sunny corner left anywhere in Little Italy once these big blocky buildings go up. Shade is everywhere. As for "the Italian heart and soul of Little Italy," well, that disappeared when the original Solunto Bakery's semolina bread disappeared along with its lovely small premises. Mona Lisa Grocery will soon have trendy competition and then you can say goodbye to many kinds of olives and cheese and bacalao in crates on the floor.— September 5, 2017 10:44 p.m.
Take my newspaper, please
San Diego's i-newsource is an example of news gathering supported by a "non-profit" structure that doesn't disclose its funders.— September 5, 2017 9:28 p.m.
SDSU’s newest rainmaker
"Screwing SDSU in the process?" Really? Soccer City folks wanted to include SDSU in their plans and make it a place for SDSU football Aztecs, but SDSU Campanile Foundation advisor McGrory whispered in the ear of longtime apparatchik and new SDSU President Sally Roush. Lo, SDSU backed out of its tentative agreement with Soccer City. Now SDSU apparently brazenly seeks to take over the entire Qualcomm site for its own purposes. Who gets screwed is the San Diego public.— August 31, 2017 5:08 p.m.
Local boy Dylan Moran makes good, and also makes a movie, Get Big
Okay, you are not sweet, but I have to ask: was there anything worth learning from it? Not even a Reader mention?— August 31, 2017 3:40 p.m.
