Buzzing up
A glossy PAMPHLET, you say? KPBS gets more ridiculous by the day. The station's one-year anniversary reprise of the Fall of Mayor Filner -- including weirdly heartfelt interviews with strange-voiced female reporters, complicit City Attorney Jan Goldsmith and manhandled ex-communications director and office mole Irene McCormick-Jackson (now much richer than a year ago, what with Council-approved unemployment benefits and a $250,000 payout from the accused) blessedly has come to an end, we so fervently hope. Anyone who contributes a dime to the KPBS organization ought to think again, after its role in hosting, promoting and capitalizing on this civic disaster.— August 6, 2014 1:05 p.m.
Mass-transit shame!
Good luck to all those cyclists. Better up your personal life insurance. The only safe bike lanes are bikes lanes removed from automobile roadways, not just green-painted paths on the surface of city streets.— August 4, 2014 12:40 p.m.
No qualified electors here, folks
Last night on KFMB Channel 8 news this court decision was portrayed as imperiling the future of Comic Con in San Diego. Two more years remain in that contract and Channel 8 convention center expansion boosters claim it will go elsewhere if we don't build what would be the largest convention hall on the West Coast. Like, prove it. I'm not reassured to hear the 11 o'clock news mouthing Chamber of Commerce and hotelier propaganda. And not a word about how relatively down-scale Comic Con fails to bring in the kind of dining, drinking and shopping money that other conventions do.— August 2, 2014 12:25 p.m.
San Diego's famed urban planner — leaving so soon?
There's a surprise. Mayor Filner's distinguished planning director leaves for Texas. The field is now wide open for Kevin Faulconer and Friends to make their mark.— August 1, 2014 6:39 p.m.
Will NFL neglect welfare of birds?
Also, I loved the crow in a Vikings football helmet.— August 1, 2014 12:31 p.m.
Will NFL neglect welfare of birds?
This reader didn't even GET Ponzi's joke until I read Bauder's retort twice. I choose not to believe this makes me hopeless and instead congratulate Mr. Bauder on following the Audubon Society warning about glass stadiums killing birds of all kinds -- not just "some birds." And especially the glassy new NFL stadium in the Twin Cities, so close to the avian flyway along the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers.— August 1, 2014 12:29 p.m.
Peeved, to be sure
Jerry Brown IS an arrogant jerk, but he won't like being associated with CPUC head Michael Peevey much longer, since the press in northern California is now editorializing against Peevey's culpable, friendly and illegal ex parte communications with Pacific Gas & Electric. That public utility has been trying to skate from responsibility for the disastrous San Bruno gas explosion that killed people, maimed others and destroyed almost 40 homes. It's a disgrace. Brown needs to cut Peevey loose now.— July 31, 2014 10:39 p.m.
Stone deaf
I'm a little disappointed: Discounts for Harvards watching polo?— July 30, 2014 1:03 p.m.
Green and Made in the U.S.A.
When we are feeling blue over Gaza/Israel; heat and humidity; the sudden dismissal of a wonderful SDUSD arts high school principal and the subsequent renewal of the puppet SDUSD Superintendent's contract for "exceeding expectations;" how mean everybody is to Vladimir Putin these days -- well, we just are grateful to Matt Potter for this hilarious great story.— July 30, 2014 12:58 p.m.
No love
Really, Don, you should identify the location of this den of iniquity. I thought for sure you were talking about the LJ Beach and Tennis Club down in the Shores, until I realized that that outfit -- watering hole for notables like Buzz Woolley and the late Neil Morgan and the Mt. Soledad Cross Kelloggs and probably Douglas Manchester -- would NEVER have a woman president.— July 30, 2014 12:36 p.m.
