Senator Hueso busted for DUI, paper reports
Hueso has always been stupid. Gonzalez has always been crude. They could rein in their proclivities, but they are brazen because they are secure with guaranteed elective paths to more safe seats in the California Legislature.— August 24, 2014 1:30 p.m.
Senator Hueso busted for DUI, paper reports
I have to add a message here for our public servants: what are you thinking? Party-hearty Lorena Gonzalez ought to put her cell phone in her purse instead of compromising her colleagues with candid photographs of carousing. And Ben Hueso ought to be thinking about his wife and kids before tying one on and getting behind the wheel.— August 22, 2014 1:21 p.m.
Senator Hueso busted for DUI, paper reports
Showing neither fear nor favor, the equal-opportunity Reader headline slams Democratic State Senator Ben Hueso, the newest member of the Legislature's large DUI Club, and reminds us of one of many reasons why right-wing GOP candidate Carl DeMaio will not be our choice to replace excellent Congressman Scott Peters in the 52nd District in November.— August 22, 2014 12:55 p.m.
Two bad boys
Channel Islands? Surely you mean the English Channel, not our own uninhabited California Channel Islands off Ventura.— August 22, 2014 12:40 p.m.
Café Coyote lives up to its name
You should have left the main drag and wandered north over to Juan Street and La Pinata, allegedly the oldest Mexican restaurant in town. It is an old bungalow with convenient parking all around it, an outdoor patio with a fountain and a charming pinata-strung interior with casement windows. The food is typically Cali-Mex but served piping hot -- and nothing leaks "wateriness."— August 21, 2014 5:05 p.m.
Crime and circumstance
Like, where is it playing? El-Ay?— August 21, 2014 4:57 p.m.
Still swinging in his 70s
Think there's too much money in California politics? Bob White's California Strategies is living testament to the notion. That outfit's $281,000 contract to promote a never-happen new city hall for ex-mayor Jerry Sanders who now heads the right-wing SD Chamber of Commerce is outrageous. Sanders ought to pay reparations to the City. And speaking of nefarious locals, where does creepy former legislator-turned-lobbyist Fabian Nunez fit in? He was in Governor Brown's recent entourage to Mexico. Maybe Nunez runs Latino strategies for that up-and-coming niche market.— August 21, 2014 1:13 p.m.
Boom. Just like that
Thumble and lightning at La Jolla Shores also sent Menehune surf campers to the Scripps Oceanographic Aquarium this morning -- not a bad substitute to watch the octopus getting fed. It's tough to be a kid growing up out here....— August 20, 2014 8:58 p.m.
Brian’s revenge
A veritable Mary Matalin/James Carville arrangement, sort of, except the Fletchers use the same last name.— August 20, 2014 4:41 p.m.
Robin Williams, RIP
I saw an unknown Robin Williams perform at the La Jolla Comedy Store in the late 1970's, just as "Mork and Mindy" was getting started. Robin was all over the room, impersonating a Russian wearing a cylindrical fur hat. It was hilarious magic. RIP.— August 20, 2014 4:35 p.m.
