Burnham confirms U-T takeover bid
I have to laugh, dwbat, very funny. (Your reference reveals your generation.)— September 21, 2014 12:51 p.m.
Burnham confirms U-T takeover bid
In this case I think it is "descent" as opposed to "decent." Malin is anything but "poor." If the deal goes through, it may be a new chapter but with a similar storyline -- corporate masters with cherished notions pushing editorial policy. Anyway, good for messengers Matt Potter and Don Bauder on this one. Our "alternative weekly" is worth its weight in advertising and circulation.— September 21, 2014 12:48 p.m.
Diversity guru still sought by UCSD
The long list of paid diversity-discussion advisors is hilarious. Maybe Pradeep Khosla can shrink those numbers and consolidate missions. Still, shame on any conservative New Yorker who butts in to our affairs.— September 19, 2014 2:06 p.m.
U-T San Diego for sale again?
Quite the rumor. If you're going to bother, why not include the neighborhood papers? One might as well have a monopoly on newsgathering and editorial opinion across the region. You could even give struggling nonprofit VoiceofSanDiego.org staff something to do and maybe include the strange inewsource operation that collaborates with KPBS when there are new Democratic mayors to be destroyed in six months' time. And have Ace parking lots for all the employees. And turn the elected Board of Education into a branch of the Chamber of Commerce. Actually the possibilities are limitless. While this is speculation, one thing is sure: it definitely would be a civil Top-sider boat-shoe coup d'etat.— September 18, 2014 10:14 p.m.
Calpers to dump hedge funds
I read in some other paper that CALPERS' hedge funds charged fees of 2% --which is a lot of money. Good they are getting out.— September 17, 2014 3:55 p.m.
Drunken Sun God quelled by 15 cop shops
RIP Ricky Ambriz. Maybe UCSD needs less tolerance for a "festival" that results in fatalities, double-digit hospital admissions, and legions of cops "from all over the state" who are doing what exactly? Ogling comely bright co-eds as the mollies are passed around? Something is the matter with this picture and I hope Chancellor Pradeep Khosla and administrator Alan Houston will fix it.— September 17, 2014 3:50 p.m.
Kelp, not Klump!
I will run it by a posse of present-day 6,8,10 and 12-year-olds and see if "Nutty Prof" is fine and funny. I will watch it with them and report back. Did I say I went to the Ken to see William Friedkin's "Sorcerer?" It was interesting -- a gritty portrayal of our poor hard-working hermanos to the South -- so thanks for that recommendation. (I have a test for you: why is that the name of the film? A couple on the sidewalk afterward asked the question, so I'm passing it along.)— September 14, 2014 10:02 p.m.
Kelp, not Klump!
What, Scott, we're getting a chronological Freudian review of your childhood through film -- "Mr. Hobbs" was seen at age 6; now "Nutty Prof" at age 7? And please, explain "a brilliant formalist," or just tell us what is its opposite. We seek to understand.— September 12, 2014 4 p.m.
UCSD employees lack criminal checks
I liked this feel-good photo of the UCSD chancellor with his campus cops, though I expected to see one of those San Diego Unified School District armored military mine-detector vehicles in the background. Could come in handy during unruly Sun God Festivals or when students block I-5 protesting tuition hikes.— September 11, 2014 5:51 p.m.
Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation from filmmaking
You are either a provocateur or an old guy to say stuff like that. (But you are funny so, sort of like Janae Rice, I forgive you.)— September 10, 2014 2:51 p.m.
