Banana Attack
Me too. Caught them in repeats in the 70's and became hooked. My girlfriend is tired of me quoting from the argument skit and the cheese shop skit. ("Do you in fact have any cheese at all?" "No sir.") But at least I don't constantly say "we are the knights who say nit." : ) Give Python another chance Josh. And watch The Odd Couple.— May 19, 2009 12:22 a.m.
Banana Attack
Thanks refried. Why didn't I think of that? You release the tiger : ) Also check out the argument clinic sketch.— May 18, 2009 10:16 p.m.
Banana Attack
There's a great Monty Python skit in which there's a self defense class in how to protect yourself when someone attacks you with a piece of fruit. After going through all the fruits they've already done (grapes? red and black. peaches? yes. in syrup? yes) they realize they haven't done....yup bananas. After the teacher (John Cleese) shows how it's done ("you then eat the banana thus disarming him"), someone in the class asks "what if he's got a bunch?" only to be yelled at to shut up. Later when the students pretend to attack the teacher with a banana at the teacher's request, the teacher in turn kills the students with various weapons like a gun and dropping a 16 ton weight on the person.— May 18, 2009 7:40 p.m.
Being Funny
I actually like the Odd Couple theme. You missed a great show.— May 18, 2009 7:29 p.m.
Being Funny
Williams thinking to himself during a manic appearance..."ok Robin, this bit is dying. Go into your gay choreographer/interior designer bit. That always gets a laugh." Never seen an Odd Couple?! They repeated them in the evenings in NY when I was growing up. Just like MASH it was a case of the tv show more than doing justice to the movie. Winters wasn't THAT fat but he did look the part. But looks alone wouldn't have carried it. I owuld love to see the outtakes of that episode. You can sense that he's always a second away from messing up the line and going into some schtick. But Klugman's role was probably very close to his real life growing up. It's a great script and definitely one of the best Zone episodes if you ever get a chance. And of course Winters was hysterical in It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, (Mad?) World. Wanda Sykes...not funny. Although I'm glad she said made the Limbaugh joke.— May 17, 2009 6:13 p.m.
The Methodist Movement
As a godless NPR listener I say, "what if the church considered it's theology to be the fairy tale that it is?" That would go a LONG way to correcting a lot the world's problems.— May 17, 2009 6 p.m.
Being Funny
And Jimmy Fallon thinks Jimmy Fallon is funny.— May 17, 2009 12:33 p.m.
Being Funny
Jonathan Winters...funny. Robin Williams...not so much. And JW is also a good actor. Have you seen that Twilight Zone episode "A Game Of Pool" with Jack Klugman? He was very good as a Minnesota Fats character back from the dead to defend his crown against Jack who is also a good actor as well as very funny although not in the stand up type of comedy way. Any episode of The Odd Couple will prove that.— May 17, 2009 12:33 p.m.
Your Son is Student of the Month? My Son is on American Idol!
If my house was on fire and all the "idol" winners were singing outside my door.....mmmm, tough choice there.— May 15, 2009 7:25 p.m.
Your Son is Student of the Month? My Son is on American Idol!
One of my gripes about today's society is that I can avoid watching American Idol, wonder in amazement at it's popularity, and still be aware of some of the singers on the show like this Adam guy. But where will he be five years from now? I believe there was a movie from 1980 or so called The Idol Maker and now we have a show that calls itself American Idol. Not underestimating the taste of the public is still a good bet even in today's economy.— May 15, 2009 2 a.m.
