well, it seems that there is a new strain of the flu each year, which is why the vaccinations are different each year. i guess it is a good idea for people with the compromised immune systems, the elderly and children, but IMO i just never saw the need for myself to get it, since i never got sick. the vaccination won't give you the flu, but you may feel a little run down afterwards, and a little sore at the injection site. people with asthma and pregnant women and children under 2 must not take the flu mist. there is the preservative (thimerasol) free vaccine that we give to pregnant and nursing women and to children 6-35 months. my best advice is what you already know. HANDWASHING.....the best way to break the chain of infection. cover your cough, and staying at home when you are ill. use those wipes at the grocery store and wipe down the handles of your cart. this is all pretty much common knowledge, but it bears repeating, especially during this season. people ARE getting sick, but we can slow the spread of even the common respiratory infection with these simple steps :)— October 30, 2009 12:42 a.m.
