Tilted Kilt waitresses and other San Diego bar girls sound off
Can't imagine why you're staying here, then! Free tip: Bars and clubs EVERYWHERE are full of desperate, pathetic people. So what? If you don't like it, don't go. If you think LA is different, then go there and get disappointed.— August 31, 2012 9:50 a.m.
Did President Nixon help finance part of San Diego?
Wow, Mitt Romney taking full advantage of the tax code to not pay any more taxes than he absolutely has to! The nerve! I know nobody here does that, and looks for more credits and deductions and other sleazy little loopholes out of paying their fair share! By God, if I notice that the IRS isn't taking enough from me, I let them know and write them a check! Good Lord, the lengths people will go to in order to try to defend Obama and see to it he gets another four years to finish wrecking the country. It isn't enough to whine and complain and stamp your feet about his main opponent doing something every American does... no sirree, we need to dig up Richard Nixon's corpse and paint Romney with that brush, too! Frankly, I'm amazed that some of you morons can remember to take one breath after another.— July 23, 2012 5:31 p.m.
Traffic Cop Questioned in Encinitas
Hooray for Steve Amster! I really don't care about whether the deputy was there "generating revenue" or saving hordes of children from reckless speeding drivers. Law enforcement needs far more respect for individual liberty and private property. If you want to invite the PD to sit on your property and stick it to people, go right ahead. Mr. Amster did not want them on his property and has every right in the world to tell them to get off of it. We need more Steve Amsters.— July 23, 2012 5:26 p.m.
Vista Man Shows Off Improvised Arsenal to Deputies
If he'd "committed no crime", why were the Deputies firing bean bags at him and surrounding the building? If it's necessary to do those things, to protect him or society, he should be hauled off. If there's no crime, then there should be no police involvement. I really don't want to live in a society where, even though I've done nothing against the law, the state can still get involved in my life. The government already has far too much power to declare that pretty much anything is a crime... smoke this plant instead of that one, gamble at the wrong place or time, pay another consenting adult for sex, carry a sidearm to be able to defend yourself. To let them skip the whole legislative process and simply decide that they need to get involved is NOT the picture of a truly free society.— July 23, 2012 5:19 p.m.
Medical Marijuana Dispensary to Challenge U.S. Attorney's War on Medical Marijuana
Don't forget that both Republicans and Democrats are in favor of this continued, failed war against freedom and certain plants. If you really, honestly want to see reform; try voting Libertarian.— July 23, 2012 5:16 p.m.
Rapist attacks at gated Mission Valley condo
More examples of why California needs CCW issuance reform. Or, more immediately, why the San Diego County needs to be forced into issuance reform. Currently, if you're a wealthy campaign contributor, an Honorary Deputy Sheriff, and/or a business owner who's been deemed to have "good cause", you can get a CCW. Otherwise... forget it. Dial 911 and pray, or risk arrest. California's antiquated, racist carry laws need to go. And until that day comes, the Sheriffs Department has grossly abused their discretion for decades, so that power must be taken from them. Most of the rest of the country has common-sense concealed carry laws, and lower crime as a result. We're left in the company of Illinois and New Jersey and New York City with our outdated, anti-Constitutional, anti-freedom laws. Is that where we really want to be?— July 23, 2012 5:14 p.m.
Coronado, Not San Diego
I'm still waiting for Los Angeles to follow through on their boycott and stop buying 25% of their power from Arizona. These "boycotts" couldn't possibly be nothing but grandstanding, could they? Surely, our elected leaders are people of principle who know that the electorate will cheerfully follow them off of a cliff for principle, right? And the fact that 60-70% of us disagree with their pro-illegal-alien position... bah, just background noise!— May 19, 2010 2:33 p.m.
Nothing normal about Normal Heights
Pit bulls do NOT have "locking jaws". If they did, they wouldn't be dogs. And those huge monstrosities with heads like cinderblocks? Not pit bulls. The breed standard for the American Pit Bull Terrier calls for a weight for males of up to around 55 lbs. The American Staffordshire Terrier can weigh in up to around 80 lbs. Most of those "pit bulls" are mixed up with mastiffs and other breeds. If they have nasty dispositions, it's more likely to be a tendency in another breed, or just plain bad breeding.— May 19, 2010 2:28 p.m.
So many San Diegans carry guns
I was pleasantly surprised to see how fairly this article was written, especially by someone who didn't know much about guns to begin with, but who wasn't afraid to learn. Hopefully, California will soon wind up reforming CCW issuance to come into line with most of the rest of the country, and with recent decisions like Heller v. DC that make it crystal-clear that the Second Amendment is an individual right that applies to each and every one of us as a US citizen. If anyone would like to know more about shooting and Second Amendment issues specific to San Diego, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sdshooting/— July 17, 2009 11:35 a.m.
