How much did they pay you to move to Texas?
Illionois has had gun control, to nearly rival CA, NJ, or NYC for deacdes. Why is it these mass murders almost always happen in "gun-free zones", and hardly ever in TX, VA, TN, AK, AZ, etc? Oh, and the NRA does not, and never has, support the acquisition of guns by gang members. They're all felons who are banned from having guns.— July 7, 2014 7:25 p.m.
How much did they pay you to move to Texas?
I love the bleating and moaning about Texas. I really do. I hope all of you build some really big signs to put on the 8 and 10 eastbound telling everyone who's headed out what a horrible place Texas is. You should be thrilled. It's only a bunch of ignorant redneck racists who want to live in Texas, right? Shouldn't you be glad to see those people go? Shouldn't you be glad to see Texas spending money to encourage them to leave California? Don't worry, a few million more noble illegal aliens and welfare recipients will move in, and they won't be bringing any icky jobs with them. S-O-U-R G-R-A-P-E-S— July 7, 2014 1:59 p.m.

Marshmallow skirmishes, but no war in O.B.
A huge thank-you to those who went out to clean up after the slobs. And another to the slobs from last year who realized that their behavior was childish and that it was time to stop. Want to have marshmallow wars? Good for you! Clean up after yourself. If you can't be bothered to do that, then it's absolutely right and just that you should wind up stigmatized.— July 7, 2014 1:54 p.m.
Murrieta mob
Who's this "we", Don? I didn't. I didn't vote for anyone who did bad things to them. Yet I'm to be presented with an open-ended bill? Sorry, no. I have no responsibility to Central Americans, and I will make every effort possible to see to it that I and tens of millions of Americans who didn't do anything wrong don't wind up stuck with the tab. And if you believe "we" have a responsibility, that must be quantified. How many "immigrants" can we absorb? How much can we pay? For how long? What happens after we meet our quota and millions more still want to come? If you can't give quantitative answers to these questions, calling for your open-border policy is irresponsible and immoral.— July 7, 2014 1:51 p.m.
Nerd deflector
I have to believe that California's excessive taxes and regulations didn't help San Diego's spot on that list. The Bay Area wins by default, not by worth. And the cost of living is even higher up there. We will see more and more of an exodus of jobs to other places. It starts slowly, and the symptoms are easy to poo-poo as "outliers" for years. But by the time it's apparent what's happening, far too much momentum has been gained, and it'll be too late to do anything about it.— July 7, 2014 1:46 p.m.
Atticus, where art thou?
After pleading for the public's help, the least the family could do is give a little more than, "Oh, never mind, everything's OK" You made this a public story, I think you owe us some details now. Where did he go? What was he doing? It isn't unreasonable to ask these questions.— July 7, 2014 1:45 p.m.
U-T shuns climate change in wildfire stories
There is ZERO evidence that the "climate" is changing. It is literally impossible to make any such statement with any factual basis... we have about 150 years of recorded weather data, which isn't even a blink of an eye when compared with the Earth's billions of years of climatological history. Scientists know to a certainty that the earth has alternated between periods with little or no polar ice and periods where much of the surface was encased in ice. Yet the idea that we see temperatures today that might be .2 degrees over what they were a few dozen years ago isa sized upon as proof that "THE CLIMATE IS CHANGING!" And, of course, it's impossible that that "change" might have anything to do with natural cycles. NO, IMPOSSIBLE, it's caused by human activity and nothing else! And the only possible solution is higher taxes, more government, and less liberty! Meanwhile, those who bleat the loudest about "global climate change" take private jets to remote resort destinations where idling limousines await to whisk them away to energy-guzzling mansions so that they can have meetings about climate change... and those meetings invariably result in some scheme that transfers enormous amounts of money into their own pockets. It's a giant scam. Period. Science does not even begin to support the idea that humans are changing the climate.— June 23, 2014 3:18 p.m.
U-T shuns climate change in wildfire stories
Pollution produced by "poor" people, or "developing nations" is OK. They need to billow huge amount sod pollutants into the environment. It's only a problem when modern, Western nations populated by white people do it. And we won't accept any of those excuses about how much less pollution comes from developed nations... they must pay higher taxes and live under more government, period.— June 23, 2014 3:11 p.m.
No drunks drive through police checkpoint
It's time to stop having them. Stopping people with no reasonable suspicion, let alone probable cause, for the sole purpose of having them show their papers and try to find a way to lock them in a cage is distinctly un-American. It's been a long time since I've been through a mobile Checkpoint Charlie, but I do not volunteer anything. "Am I being detained, or am I free to go?"— June 23, 2014 2:59 p.m.
