Three of clubs
"Insiders say a necessary structural retrofit is keeping it dark. Redevelopment agencies that used to pay for such renovations were dissolved three years ago." Why should a "redevelopment agency" be paying? The property owners should pay. If they can't, let them sell to someone else. And if it sits vacant, well, it's their property... if they just want to write a check for the taxes every year and generate no income, that's up to them.— June 19, 2015 9:17 a.m.
Coronado Bridge to eternity
And when the jumpers avoid the net, or kill themselves some other way? We cannot coat the world in bubble wrap to try to keep a few people from offing themselves. Why should the rest of us pay for ugly nets? There are already signs up there. Anyone who wants help can get it. If they decide to go over the side, our goal should be to get their car towed off of the bridge as quickly as possible, because the rest of us didn't do anything wrong and shouldn't be punished with a traffic jam because some selfish slob decided to give one last eff-you to the world.— June 19, 2015 9:14 a.m.
Coronado Bridge to eternity
Jumpers jump. Those who stand there threatening to jump while traffic is tied up around them are attention-seekers. The cops should just go get them. Walk towards them jingling handcuffs... if they then jump, at least we can get traffic moving. If they don't jump, cuff 'em and drag 'em away and get traffic moving.— June 19, 2015 9:12 a.m.
How the churchgoer preyed...
Thieves should stay in prison until they repay what they took. Oh, I'm sorry, the money's gone? get it back. Can't? Then you'll sit there forever. That's fine. Why should you be free when you haven't made your victims whole? Maybe the next thief will reconsider.— June 19, 2015 9:09 a.m.
Energy-hog plug by SDG&E
It's completely disingenuous to call large energy users "hogs". How many of those big users are businesses providing jobs? Electricity should be priced according to supply and demand. In the middle of the day and evening, it should be expensive. At night, it should be cheap. Do it that way, and demand will level out somewhat... the "hogs" will shift as much usage to night as possible, leaving more available during the day.— June 19, 2015 9:04 a.m.
Don't move here for great childcare or education
Everyone wants to live at the beach, but there's only so much beach to go around. So yeah, prices will be high. Those who cannot afford to live here should move. Tons of places are far more affordable than San Diego. I don't get the people who stay and whine.— June 19, 2015 9:01 a.m.
Tijuana doesn’t want another 2008
You can get stabbed wandering around some neighborhoods north of the border at 1AM, too. Most, if not all, of the Americans who wind up getting in trouble in Mexico went looking for trouble. I doubt many have been mugged or stabbed for having dinner and a couple of drinks after some shopping. But if you go down there to get drunk or look for hookers and drugs, you're going to wind up with some problems. As for the corrupt cops, it isn't too hard to use a second wallet, apologize, ask them what the fine is, let them take some (or all) of your bait money, and be on your way. Annoying? Yeah. But it's also fairly rare in the tourist areas. It's been a while since I've been to Mexico, but I'd go again.— June 19, 2015 8:59 a.m.
Those damn beehives!
Cool story. It would have been nice if she'd maybe sold the hives, bees and all. Can't agree with burning up the bees, it wasn't their fault. But we could use more justice like this today instead of the namby-pamby hand-wringing requiring violent predators to be "understood" and left to do what they want while hamstringing the rest of us.— June 19, 2015 8:52 a.m.
Desert rats got a thing for Rancho Santa Fe
GAAAHHH, higher octane does NOT add horsepower, and most of the dopes buying it are throwing their money away! Higher octane fuel is needed in higher compression engines to avoid knocking and pinging.— June 19, 2015 8:49 a.m.
Bob Kuczewski – arrested at Torrey Pines glider port again
“I don’t care what the judge says.” Oops. That isn't going to go over well. If I were that judge, he'd be gulping down double-helpings of humble pie or spending some time in the custody of the Sheriff's Department.— June 19, 2015 8:44 a.m.
