Two Oktoberfest weekends possible for La Mesa
"However, the association must meet deadlines to pay $22,229.92 for 2014 city services and a 25-percent deposit (or $27,400) for 2015. Otherwise, the permit will be denied." Wait a minute... are they saying this group didn't have to pay for public services last year? Or that this year that cost has more than quadrupled? I'm all for making sure that the event is paying for the additional services that are required... police, traffic control, sanitation, etc. But I'm not too hip on the idea of a "permit", as in, "You give us a bunch of money and we give you a piece of paper"— August 3, 2015 8:41 a.m.
Endangered species holds up road construction
"Since then, two residential developments have also been constructed along Otay Mesa Road: the single-family homes of Remington Hills and the 40 condominiums of SeaView Terrace." I thought we were supposed to be in a drought?— August 3, 2015 8:38 a.m.
"Jamaican" beer not brewed in Jamaica
What are the damages? If this is an issue to them, why can't they just stop drinking Red Stripe? I really hate our litigious society. "I'm unhappy, who can I sue today?" I hope the court comes to it's senses, dismisses this case as frivolous, and hits the plaintiffs with court fees.— August 3, 2015 8:35 a.m.
Sin City send-off
I'm all for this! I'd like to see Thursday evening departures, though. And I'm wondering about this $154 "promotional" fare... how much is the REAL fare gonna be? It's already more than SWA out of SAN. I'm absolutely willing to pay for the convenience of using CLD, but not endlessly... as it is, it's no biggie for me to drive to SAN, park in one of the garages, and take their shuttle to and from Terminal 1.— August 3, 2015 8:32 a.m.
Burglars rifle cars for remotes
It's a bad idea to leave ANYTHING visible in your car. If they see nothing, the car must be empty. If they see something, it is not empty... and therefore there might be more stuff somewhere else.— July 31, 2015 2 p.m.
Burglars rifle cars for remotes
What is "riffle"?— July 31, 2015 1:59 p.m.
Fake Uber driver outed
I don't see the problem here. Anyone who wants Uber uses the Uber app. Someone who's calling a number off of a passing car obviously wants that company. So what if they're "tricked"? They're "tricking" themselves, and at the end of the day they're getting driven to where they want for a price they've agreed to pay.— July 30, 2015 7:47 a.m.
Casa Mira View — city of villages or mecca for crime?
I thought we were in a drought. Shouldn't all construction of new housing cease until the drought has been resolved? Why should I use less so thousands more can crowd in and use more?— July 30, 2015 7:42 a.m.
Coronado toll booths give way to fantasizing
How about REMOVING the toll plaza? It served it's purpose. The only reason to keep it or "renovate" it is to start collecting tolls again. And I'd be OK with paying tolls for bridges and roads, if that was how they were being built and maintained, and I wasn't being taxed otherwise. I pay tens of thousands of dollars a year in taxes right now. I get tired of that buying me fat pensions for unionized government slugs, freebies for illegal aliens and welfare bums, trains to nowhere, and huge payoffs for buddies of politicians. And when I say, "There isn't enough water, the roads are crap, bridges are collapsing, the schools are failing, let's do something about that", the response is, "Well, you have to pay more! Vote for this bond or tax increase, and maybe a little bit of that money will be used for those things."— July 30, 2015 7:40 a.m.
Before 16, Sherry Sotelo became adult in San Diego's juvenile court
"she won the right to adulthood in juvenile court. Why was it needed? Reasons abound. She had given birth to a daughter, was overstressed by motherhood, was tardy or way behind with classes, and had to search, often weekly, for a safe place to sleep. In fact, she dropped out of high school for a semester just to get her bearings." She had to become an "adult" because she acted like a child??? Unbelievable.— July 24, 2015 10:48 a.m.
