No Bud, No Ketchup
I think Stone in particular gets plenty of love. My piece of crap local CVS sells three varieties of Stone beer. And ketchup. I like the Neighborhood a lot. But if you're going to have Velveeta mac n cheese (ok, dressed up with jalapenos), you really have no call to get all high and mighty about ketchup!— May 29, 2010 1:54 p.m.
Bad Owner
Someday this dog will bite a person and have to be put down. I'm sad already.— May 29, 2010 1:36 p.m.
Casino economy
Really? A student suicide victim from three years ago is the best illustration of SDSU's contracting activity? Gross.— May 29, 2010 1:35 p.m.
SDNN Closes Orange County Operation
SDNN does great reporting on some topics. On education in particular, they are way ahead of anyone else in SD. Their current story on the dumping of potentially hazardous lead paint remediation waste at Miramar doesn't seem to have been picked up anywhere else and is not exactly soft or light. It's definitely been a long uphill climb for them but I think they've found a voice. It's nice to see actual reporting in a daily venue.— May 25, 2010 8:31 p.m.
I am worried about people
"it was not always this way" Yes, it was. Always. People are social animals but more akin to wolves than to bees. We have to establish our place in the social order, and the way we do that is by figuring out who is "below" us and making sure they know it. When we do it as individuals it's bullying and teasing. When we do it as groups it's racism and terrorism and religious intolerance. Unlike wolves, we can recognize the injustice in our behaviors and try to address them. But it's a constant battle and we will always have it.— March 14, 2010 11:23 a.m.
Union-Tribune sold cheap to Platinum Equity
The real energy at the UT right now is the amazing amount of hate the community of commenters generates. They can turn almost any story into a screed about Obamacare or illegal immigrants or welfare queens. It's impressive. Given how well Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have done at building bile into a brand, the UT folks should really be looking at how they can monetize this amazing force.— March 14, 2010 11:12 a.m.
Straight up
Facts? According to the Catholics, procreation is the reason marriage exists and they can and have refused to marry people who cannot have children. According to them, that is the fact of marriage. There are no objective facts when it comes to social conventions, which is what marriage is. There is majority opinion, there is what feels right for you, there is what you believe others should or should not be allowed to do. Think. Feel. Believe. Construing any of this as "fact" is ridiculous.— March 8, 2010 1:13 p.m.

This guy is a public information officer, but doesn't get that blocking doesn't really do anything to stop someone reading your public twitter account... huh. [You can block someone from *following* you. Following gets your tweets automatically fed to them, but unless you make your whole account private, anyone can see your tweets by just going to the URL for your twitter stream. War at La Jolla Farms
So Jennings thought she was getting advice based on "confidential" insider information she wasn't supposed to have, didn't do independent research into the company's prospects and competition, and then is suing because it didn't work out. Huh. Strikes me as the upper crust equivalent of calling the cops because someone stole your marijuana.— December 5, 2009 4:06 p.m.
Eligible Violators
I have personally been attacked twice by unleashed dogs in PB. In both cases they were dachsunds so it was more comical than dangerous. In one case the owner was apologetic and tried to catch him but in the other case he did nothing and I had to hit the dog with my bag to get him to back down. Stupid thing bit my ankle, but didn't puncture the skin thankfully. I would LOVE to make that idiot owner clean the streets for four hours.— November 17, 2009 6:51 a.m.
