Hotel St. George play a CD release party on Friday, May 14th, 9:00pm at The Whistle Stop. Apes of Wrath are also on the bill, plus DJs Robin Roth and Jaime Ali will be spinning electro, indie, '80s, and more. Louisa West with Jimmy Patton and Friends are playing a CD release party for their new album Sambarina on Sunday, May 16th, 2:00pm at Encinitas Library. "We'll be debuting some new material from the new CD," says Louisa, "and we'll be featuring some of the members of the newly formed Azucar Azul project, including drummer Russell Bizzett and upright and electric bassist Grant Clarkson."

Wobbling

I don't understand the hostile reactions to this - seems to be the result of some prior ill will toward this stringer. Sure, it's not Pulitzer material, but neither is it a dry "police blotter" style recitation of dry out-of-context facts. Rather, the writeup (somewhere between an observation and a report) provides a quick but succinct glimpse into this neighborhood in general and this locale in particular, even referencing a character apparently well known to others in the area. A character who, incidentally, I want to know more about, if this stringer manages to come across more -- Even the lack of comment from CVS tells a bit of a story, RE corporate policy making evident their unease over publicity that may (or may not) paint their locale in an urban light having nothing to do with retail sales.

A Most Exceptional Duck

Cool! White ducks are usually domestic fowl who've been released (or escaped) into the wild - it's interesting to watch the coloring of subsequent generations as they mate with more colorful "wild" ducks, with markings from speckled spots to off-white splotches to half-n-half ducks that end up looking like their forefathers (forefeathers?) mated with zebras or something! Muscovy ducks - which some people think are weird turkey-looking critters - are getting common around La Mesa, and they make good pond pets. They can be a bit aggressive while feeding, but they're smart and will behave, as long as you don't play favorites with one of 'em! The El Cajon courthouse has some VERY tame ducks that will walk right up to people and hang out, even if you're not feeding them. There's a handsome part-mallard there named Frank - you'll know him when you meet him. He yells his name all the time, and it sounds for all the world like someone yelling "Fraaaaaaaaannnnk!"
