Paul is really two movies that clumsily attempt to pass as one - the first is a typical Seth Rogen stoner roadshow, while the other is a sci-fi comic-geek spoof. Unfortunately, Rogen's voice never sounds or looks right coming from the alien's mouth - it's like watching one movie, with the sound turned down in favor of the soundtrack to a similar -- but altogether different -- movie.

Kentucky Fried Movie

Far better than Mr. Shepherd's comparitive examples the Groove Tube and Tunnelvision - the SNL-style sketch format is rarely done well for theaters. For every Amazon Women on the Moon (very funny KFM "sequel" made by most of the Kentucky Fried crew), there are a dozen Prime Times, Bad Channels, TV: The Movies, the Onion Movies, etc. If you want to see the best of the best, to quote one KFM character, "Thith ith not a chawade." Long live Catholic High School Girls in Trouble!

Well said, rmizrachi! Still hard to believe Russ has left us, after he was so positive about beating his newest bout with the big "C." I have a file folder here somewhere full of printouts of emails where we bounced local music memories back and forth. He's also quoted at length in an article I hope to finish soon called Long Gone, about forgotten concert venues around town -- the clarities of his recollections always astounded and fascinated me. =sigh= When Russ arrived on the other side, I'm sure Eleanor Widmer and Judith Moore were holding for him a great dinner table and some excellent reading material --
