The brutal confession I tendered by writing this article WAS my way to "own what is" mine. I also wanted to make a public apology to "Jenny," the woman I conned into subsidizing my addiction. She was far too good a person to have deserved either me OR "Timmy." BTW, Timmy still occasionally sends me threatening and abusive emails (he used to Instant Message his rage, causing me to disable my 'puter's IM function on AOL and Facebook). Remarkably, it turns out he and Jenny reunited and are still living together to this day. Tho I worry about whether he still tweaks and abuses her, I'm glad they seem to have worked out their problems enough to remain a committed team. I'd like to think both Timmy and Jenny are off the drugs now and living a happy life together. That would be the best possible ending for this story, the ideal "ever after".......

Low Volts are having a release party for their album Twist Shake Grind Break at the Casbah on Friday the 13th of May. New local band the Hi-Watts will make their live debut at the show, and the bill also includes Little Hurricane, Stephen Rey & the Slicks, and Restavrant.

The Green Hornet
I find it hard to accept former funnyman (to some, anyway) Rogen as GH, despite his dramatic weight loss - I saw the car at the SD Comic-Con tho, and it looked cool! I'm not a fan of the old TV show either - the Batman narrator never meshed with the serious tone, and it was frequently violent to the point of irresponsibility. I understand that in Asian countries it's known as the Kato Show, as they consider Bruce Lee the real star - which is basically true! Still didn't do much to improve a weak show, tho - I don't even think I Iiked the Hornet pulp magazines. The Shadow, the Spider, the Avenger (dude with putty molding face) and Doc Savage were vastly superior pulp adventurers. Hornet is a rabidly capitalist, elitist, violent show-off fascist, on his BEST day ---

The Hit Man I Can't Forget
The original House of Blues on Sunset is mentioned in a Facebook group dedicated to 70s/80s Strip lore, but I quit the group and can't remember what they were called -- I remember looking over their list of Strip nightclubs while researching the legendary Masque punk club that once operated in the basement of the Pussycat Theater, and I was surprised to see the Strip had a HOB so long before the later Ackroyd-assisted chain.

Wonderful and evocative piece - I found myself humming some of the timeless songs you mention. You did indeed walk among giants --- Tho ultimately a somewhat sad tale, I appreciated the sprinkles of humor - especially "I may have been from Valley Center, but that didn’t mean I was raised by wolves..."

Heavy Traffic
I've always been baffled by the hostility most animation fans have toward this movie. Sure, it's extremely stoner-themed, and a lot of people find it crazy racist, with the urban-slash-ethnic characters much more violent and darkly portrayed than in Bakshi's earlier Fritz the Cat (which was already kinda jaw dropping), so that may have a lot to do with audience hostility. Parts of it still make me cringe, but the whole idea behind these first "adult" cartoons was to push way past all previous limits and preconceptions about animation, to capture a bit of the wild west freedom and adventurism of early underground comics --- in that, at least, Heavy Traffic certainly succeeded.

The Dils were nearly the first FAMOUS punk band out of San Diego, by virtue of their appearance in Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke movie, where they’re seen playing at the end of the Battle of the Bands sequence. Unfortunately, they played so badly (unaware that they wouldn't get another "take") that few who saw them in the movie sought them out --

P.O.D. are currently recording new music at Golden Track Recording Studio in San Diego, apparently funding the sessions themselves, though eventual release plans are so far unannounced.

Jay Allen Sanford tells his yearlong trip down Crack Street
The brutal confession I tendered by writing this article WAS my way to "own what is" mine. I also wanted to make a public apology to "Jenny," the woman I conned into subsidizing my addiction. She was far too good a person to have deserved either me OR "Timmy." BTW, Timmy still occasionally sends me threatening and abusive emails (he used to Instant Message his rage, causing me to disable my 'puter's IM function on AOL and Facebook). Remarkably, it turns out he and Jenny reunited and are still living together to this day. Tho I worry about whether he still tweaks and abuses her, I'm glad they seem to have worked out their problems enough to remain a committed team. I'd like to think both Timmy and Jenny are off the drugs now and living a happy life together. That would be the best possible ending for this story, the ideal "ever after".......— May 11, 2011 1:28 a.m.

The Green Hornet
I find it hard to accept former funnyman (to some, anyway) Rogen as GH, despite his dramatic weight loss - I saw the car at the SD Comic-Con tho, and it looked cool! I'm not a fan of the old TV show either - the Batman narrator never meshed with the serious tone, and it was frequently violent to the point of irresponsibility. I understand that in Asian countries it's known as the Kato Show, as they consider Bruce Lee the real star - which is basically true! Still didn't do much to improve a weak show, tho - I don't even think I Iiked the Hornet pulp magazines. The Shadow, the Spider, the Avenger (dude with putty molding face) and Doc Savage were vastly superior pulp adventurers. Hornet is a rabidly capitalist, elitist, violent show-off fascist, on his BEST day ---— May 9, 2011 12:08 p.m.
The Hit Man I Can't Forget
The original House of Blues on Sunset is mentioned in a Facebook group dedicated to 70s/80s Strip lore, but I quit the group and can't remember what they were called -- I remember looking over their list of Strip nightclubs while researching the legendary Masque punk club that once operated in the basement of the Pussycat Theater, and I was surprised to see the Strip had a HOB so long before the later Ackroyd-assisted chain.— May 8, 2011 4:14 p.m.

Wonderful and evocative piece - I found myself humming some of the timeless songs you mention. Heavy Traffic
I've always been baffled by the hostility most animation fans have toward this movie. Sure, it's extremely stoner-themed, and a lot of people find it crazy racist, with the urban-slash-ethnic characters much more violent and darkly portrayed than in Bakshi's earlier Fritz the Cat (which was already kinda jaw dropping), so that may have a lot to do with audience hostility. Parts of it still make me cringe, but the whole idea behind these first "adult" cartoons was to push way past all previous limits and preconceptions about animation, to capture a bit of the wild west freedom and adventurism of early underground comics --- in that, at least, Heavy Traffic certainly succeeded.— May 2, 2011 8:59 p.m.

It's a Nicey Nice World
The Dils were nearly the first FAMOUS punk band out of San Diego, by virtue of their appearance in Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke movie, where they’re seen playing at the end of the Battle of the Bands sequence. Unfortunately, they played so badly (unaware that they wouldn't get another "take") that few who saw them in the movie sought them out --— April 25, 2011 5:35 a.m.

P.O.D. are currently recording new music at Golden Track Recording Studio in San Diego, apparently funding the sessions themselves, though eventual release plans are so far unannounced.— April 25, 2011 5:17 a.m.
