Believe me, it blows my mind too.” HOW ARE YOU WITH THE LADIES NOW? “I’ve had a girlfriend for about four years. But she got mad at me yesterday. I think I accidentally put a dark in with the whites.” WHY SAN DIEGO? “Best weather on the planet, beach to the west, Mexico to the south, Vegas to the east, and L.A. and San Francisco to the north. What else do you need?” EVER BEEN FIRED? “I got fired from College Loan Corporation about eight years ago, for falling asleep at my desk every day. Oh well. It wasn’t like I was operating heavy machinery on meth.” HARDEST TO PLAY OLD TIGER TUNE? “‘Get Along.’ It’s challenging as vocalist and as a guitarist. I play some things high up on the neck that are a bit hard to do while singing, and the main vocal melody is tough for me to hit consistently. Makes it a challenge, and that’s always scary and fun.” TO DO BEFORE YOU DIE? “Don’t die.” WHAT WOULD YOUR GRADE SCHOOL TEACHER SAY ABOUT YOU? “They’d say I was very polite and incredibly smart. Gets along well with others, but is unnaturally shy and awkward around smokin’ hot ladies.” FEARS OR PHOBIAS? “I’m deathly afraid of the Dark Crystal movie. I will never watch it. Ever. Scares the crap outta me. Just saying the word ‘gelfling’ makes my skin crawl.”

Indeed, one wonders why there's no rock and roll equivalent of Hollywood's "Old Actors Home" - lack of a S.A.G.- style union? Back when rock stars were rolling (and smoking and shooting up) their fortunes, instead of ripping off their musical forefathers, they should have been putting aside cash to help support them. Or at least credit the first generation for the stolen riffs in their song credits, so some more royalties would've trickled down.

Bruce Cameron: jazz any way you like it

Fantastic profile, one that really evokes fond memories. It's been at least 20 years since I've heard anyone mention long-gone venues like the old Blue Parrot in La Jolla (where I once saw Robben Ford accidentally set his sheet music on fire by placing his music stand too close to one of the table candles, due to the lack of space in the intimate, almost closet-sized venue). Those early days of pre-and-post Fattburger were indeed a golden age for local jazz. Glad that cats like Mr. Cameron are still out there, doing what he does so beautifully --
