If anyone wants to see a greatly expanded version of this article - with over 100 rare photos and my own essay about working for Walnut in the late 70s/early 80s, it can be found elsewhere on the Reader website:

Rock That Bears Its Soul

Time to Kill
Hmmm, okay. Then this info indicates I may have been unfair to describe what Bob did to the Guitar Center clerk as "ripping off." In light of Mikeh's post, and after re-reading Bob's own quotes, I take back what I said about not trusting Bob with property. It appears only his WORD cannot be trusted, as he lied to the clerk about bringing him the amp business. So Bob may not be a thief after all - only an admitted liar (I don't consider lying to be "bargaining"). Ensuing trust issues are best left to those thinking about trusting Ambient Bob ------

Time to Kill
Jeez, so "Ambient Bob" admits - even brags - about ripping off the Guitar Center clerk, who he KNEW worked on commission?!?!? For almost $2000????!!!!! Nice. Anyone and everyone thinking about trusting Ambient Bob with ANYthing more valuable than a lit match, please make note. And, if you ever see him coming your way, padlock your belongings.....

A rollover truck on Pamo Road in Ramona
Good Lord, I don't know which was more painful to read - this story, or the comments. I tried to view the JusticeforJadean MySpace page, but it's been taken down. There was a lovely memorial page and one belonging to her brother, neither of them revealing any more info - let alone insight - than what can be found on this Reader webpage. I ache with sympathy for Jadean's Mom, even tho I'm concerned about her apparent determination to focus all the blame on one party, ignoring that at least some responsibility lies with young Jadean's own actions. Yes, Mr. Garcia clearly has a history that should have resulted in much more investigation, if not more aggressive prosecution, but the man cannot be decisively branded a "murderer," even after reading the decidedly (and intensely) one-sided arguments presented in the article by Jadean's mom. So much pain here, and I doubt anything akin to a "resolution" will ever occur, for any of the parties involved (all of whom have my sympathy, tho some seem to deserve far more than others).

Alton Kelley RIP – Another Rock Art Legend Passes: Unpublished 1999 Interview
Hi Yossarian, China and George, pleased to hear from you - feel free to send mailing addys to me at jas2669 @ aol . com, and I'll be glad to send copies of the interview tape. I'm still baffled about why I can't find part one - perhaps I gave someone to transcribe and never got it back. I'll go thru my tapes one more time to seek out the first tape - it was wonderful to play back part 2 last night while I went through my long-cherished art archives. Best in all endeavors, JAS SD Reader

The Famous Former Neighbors list just happened to be people I've already covered in that comic strip. I still have a list of well over a hundred others I plan to get to, now including - thanks to above tip - Anita Loos. You can see a number of the Famous Neighbor comics by hitting the link on the mainpage "Weekly Features" key, or clicking "Stories" on the toolbar atop every page and choosing "Oddities" from the dropdown menu.

For All Those Ladies Out There
Worth mentioning that the band did indeed provide us with all this info, but there's just no room in a 200 word Blurt to say all we'd like to say. Thank gawd for comment forums! (or thank Al Gore, since he once essentially claimed to invent the internet). Gil may be too modest to consider himSELF an "accomplished" player, but I've seen and heard him and the company he keeps and performs with, and I'm certainly impressed!

Bought a lap dance at the Main attraction in Oceanside when he didn't have money for rent
Terrific story, and very evocative - I've known a couple of sadsack Scotts in my time. Some people are genuinely unhappy about being happy. Any time their life holds the glimmer of going well, they (subconsciously?) screw it up. The Scotts of this world are only happy when they're miserable - a decent, stable life is intolerable to them. Your friend Scott will be in my prayers - I hope someday he can stand on solid ground, without always looking for the next cliff to jump off of.

Those Days Are Over
Out of over 100 Rock Around the Town blog posts on the Reader site, one of the most-viewed entries is "50 Historic San Diego Concerts 1917 - 2005." Local Eric Rife is finishing his documentary film about the history of the music scene in San Diego, and Blurt contrib/Shambles singer Bart Mendoza is working on a book chronicling the city's rock and roll history. There appears to be a lot of interest in this sort of thing - hence the occasional Blurt! Seems worth noting that the only Blurt this week so far to earn website comments is THIS one -----

If anyone wants to see a greatly expanded version of this article - with over 100 rare photos and my own essay about working for Walnut in the late 70s/early 80s, it can be found elsewhere on the Reader website: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/bands/2008/…— July 9, 2008 5:53 p.m.

Ensuing trust issues are best left to those thinking about trusting Ambient Bob ------— June 14, 2008 12:19 p.m.
And, if you ever see him coming your way, padlock your belongings.....— June 11, 2008 2:12 p.m.
So much pain here, and I doubt anything akin to a "resolution" will ever occur, for any of the parties involved (all of whom have my sympathy, tho some seem to deserve far more than others).— June 11, 2008 1:37 p.m.
Best in all endeavors, JAS SD Reader— June 5, 2008 8:13 p.m.

The Famous Former Neighbors list just happened to be people I've already covered in that comic strip. I still have a list of well over a hundred others I plan to get to, now including - thanks to above tip - Anita Loos. You can see a number of the Famous Neighbor comics by hitting the link on the mainpage "Weekly Features" key, or clicking "Stories" on the toolbar atop every page and choosing "Oddities" from the dropdown menu.— June 4, 2008 9:04 p.m.
For All Those Ladies Out There
Worth mentioning that the band did indeed provide us with all this info, but there's just no room in a 200 word Blurt to say all we'd like to say. Thank gawd for comment forums! (or thank Al Gore, since he once essentially claimed to invent the internet). Gil may be too modest to consider himSELF an "accomplished" player, but I've seen and heard him and the company he keeps and performs with, and I'm certainly impressed!— May 30, 2008 3:14 a.m.
Your friend Scott will be in my prayers - I hope someday he can stand on solid ground, without always looking for the next cliff to jump off of.— May 23, 2008 6:38 p.m.
Seems worth noting that the only Blurt this week so far to earn website comments is THIS one -----— May 16, 2008 7:12 p.m.
